611 Awkward.

I had a dream the other night where I was in a town I used to live in.  My family still lived there in the context of the dream.  Some kind of celebration had gotten out of hand and a mob of drunken people .  Was roaming the streets destroying things.  I had to come home and batten down the hatches so to speak.  After that I got in my truck and tried to draw the mob away from our neighborhood.  It was really weird.

I kind of expected more of a reaction to these pages considering how polarizing Reggie can be.  Maybe everyone in experiencing a stunned silence.  I still have no idea what things people will react strongly to.  X]

Me? I figure next time we see Reggie he’ll as much of jerk as ever. Also, it’s only because his mouth is closed in embarrassment that it isn’t spewing something offensive, stupid, or both. Still, there is good in him, if you can ignore the noise he makes long enough to see it.

Dunno how I feel about him acting like a decent human being.

On one hand, I hate it how some people can get away with murder withing a company because they have connections, while other guys (like me and Ed) seem to have nothing but bad luck in the workforce despite their most sincere efforts. So, this change is good in that respect.

On the other hand, I hate to see the antagonist have a change of heat when he’s the only one, especially when he hasn’t been around that long.

Hopefully, if this change is for good, we’ll see someone else come in to breed a little chaos. Maybe it’ll be that guy who was hitting on Carol a while back.

Don’t worry, just because he’s not all bad doesn’t mean Reggie won’t be annoying anymore. He won’t be the only problem in the store forever though.

The trouble with having a Designated Antagonist — or indeed, a Designated Anything — is that they’re forced into that characterisation, generally until a replacement (Usually worse than or more like them than they ever were) appears.

Until that day happens, the most I can hope for is that Reggie dodges the Reset Button and doesn’t keep snapping back to Absolute Dickwad mode.

Even at his worst Reggie isn’t all that bad. In a lot of ways Ed is as much of a jerk, but becomes aware of it faster and is repentant. Reggie isn’t just an antagonist. He’s a person who does antagonizing things. As bad as he might be he’s still a human, and can be reached if circumstances allow.

The things about Reggie’s character at first was that we all hated him. The first part of your comic endeared every other character in us, so when you introduced a character that was flagrantly hateful to them, we hated him. It wasn’t a love-to-hate kind of things either, we hated him. Now, that he’s had some redemption, we might be able to like him somewhat :)

Yeah, a wee bit stunned, but he’s your character (I don’t know about you, but mine still surprise me every once and a while, they have a will of their own).

I think this is part of Reggie growing a bit. It’s nice to see an asshole turn into more of an asshat!

is it true that if you write a story or a webcomic, that the characters come alive in your head and they basically become real people in your head, and tell you their story?

Very much so. Eventually they won’t allow you to do things they don’t want to, and refuse to act out of character.

It’s probably not like that for everyone, but I know a lot of people who experience sub-creation in a similar way.

Lol., yeah, I’d go on the stunned silence thing. I know I was personally hesitant on giving Reggie credit for being a good guy all of a sudden. Figured I’d see how the arc ends and if he blows it or not =P lolz. But, it actually looks like things are gonna work out pretty good! =) Yay!

He’s a jerk for sure, but not evil per se. He has a moral code he lives by that just doesn’t always get along with everyone else’s.
