I’m so extremely tired I’m just going to give you the bare bones update about mom. She had a blood clot in her lung. They operated. She’s stable. Your continued thoughts and prayers on her behalf are appreciated.

I absolutely have to sleep a little bit now.

I hope you have a nice weekend. On Monday I’ll be back with more comic. Until then, be excellent to each other.

Update

Mom has blood clots all in her legs. If I’ve ever done anything worthy of it for you, please pray for her safe recovery. We are all with her now just in case, but I’d really like a few more years with her if I can get them. I can’t make a case for deserving it on my account, but I’m not above begging. Thank you in advance.

She says if anything happens to her she wants me to continue the comic and I will do so.

Prayers for your Mom.

Just want to say I am extremely grateful to you for updating so promptly when you’ve got so much else going on. This and a few other webcomics are the online stuff that’s keeping me going at the moment, and the reliability of yours is a great gift I hardly deserve (and never expect) but *deeply* appreciate. Thank you so much.

Re: Clots

IIRC, one of the blood thinners that tends to be prescribed to prevent future clots (Warfarin) has issues with vitamin K rich foods, like pickles, kale and other greens, where one has to be careful about regulating intake of them.

Doctors should be fairly informative about that, but putting it out there just in case.

Warfarin is still in use, but I think it’s largely being replaced by Xeralto, as it’s generally considered safer and more effective, and you don’t need to keep repeating INRs every few weeks.

I took Xeralto for a year, I had pretty extensive clotting in my leg. It worked wonders! My energy was maybe 70-80% of normal levels, in my experience, but manageable. /r/bloodclotsurvivors was a great resource, including lists questions to ask your doctor

I used Warfarin for close to 5 years after I got my pacemaker.

Unfortunately I also contracted Covid in 2022, and my warfarin levels spiked to 4x what they should have been and I developed compartment hemorrhages in my legs. After that they put me on Eliquis.

Hi Jackie,

I have contacted a church group, + they will say prayers for you + your Mom. Prayers + thoughts for you + your Mom.
Cheers.

Hi, I have told the church group about the update, + they are sending more prayers.
Best Wishes to you and your Mom,
TRA

I’m glad your mom’s surgery was successful, and I hope she has a swift and easy recovery. All the best, to you and her both :)

Rest well Jackie…you and your mom made it…you have exceeded your duty and let us know beyond what any expect you to accomplish in your current condition…you will be stronger for your efforts.

Yeah both…

This is an awesome twist! I knew Jo was into it…but GO PAT!…if pat hadn’t been there Jo would have been sitting back with popcorn but, thanks to pat’s influence she is getting the nerve to participate! Also nice way to aim your guns pat!

Caucasity brings up something I’ve thought of in the past. What ethnicities are Mike and Brooksie? No interested in the actual answers but I’ve always thought of Mike as Hispanic and Brooks as Indian. Probably not the right answer but it makes sense to me.

Brooksie’s appearance reminds me of my Bangladeshi coworker, so I just kinda thought of her ancestors as being from that region. I figured Mike was hispanic, maybe black+hispanic

Sending my thoughts – I will also let my wife know about this – she is a pastor, so prayers are added too!

I’m not a religious man, but you are in my thoughts and I’m trying to send good vibes. And I agree with your mom, you should continue the comic whatever happens. Thank you for doing it so far.

can’t send ya a prayer, i’m not theist, but i did try to send you a buck.

btw, something’s weird with patreon. or maybe it’s me. anyway, hope it all goes well with the mum dude, i’ve enjoyed your comic throughout the years

On the comic: Good GOD my wife would effing LOVE Rulette.
On your real life: Make sure that you take a moment to know that you are an important part of at least a few people’s week every other day, and that’s a lot more than a lot of people ever amount to. Fwiw, I’m proud of you. And it sounds like your mom is, too. To borrow a quirk of speech from ChatGPT that it uses every five minutes, that’s not nothing. I hope this comes across the way I mean it to.

Jackie, just, here’s a hug of empathy man. As someone who is dealing with constant health issues with his parents, nowhere near what you’re dealing with for your mom, I can only barely conceive what you’re feeling. I know the feeling of wanting to have more years with the parentals so yeah, you two get my prayers.

Been researching stuff to help with neuropathy, which is kind of the bane of cancer survivors. Alpha lipoic acid and benfotiamine are recommended. Drberg has some informative videos on youtube. I didn’t seem to do well with the prescription treatments. Maybe that’s something that would help your mom.

Glad she is stable and my sincerest hopes are with you for her continued health. I don’t think anyone should have to deserve to get more time with a parent so I will happily add you to my family’s prayers.

Thanks for continuing in your art throughout everything. It can’t be easy but if it helps this is always a positive in my day when I see a new post and I imagine I’m not the only one.

My prayer: May Jackie’s mom recover quickly, cheaply and well, and may the cause be something easily fixed and prevented.

Continued thoughts and prayers to you and yours Jackie

As for the comic, thanks to Rul (and Jackie) for the laugh from panel three; had an ex that acted exactly like this in school and college.
