If you just want to have a nice time with my funny comic skip this next part.
I’m tired boss. I knew the chemo was going to make mom tired but man. Everything is a massive struggle all the time. I was absolutely expecting things to get bad but I was woefully unprepared. Really we all were. We did basically zero prep work for any of this and that was a MISTAKE. I felt like things were getting dicey but didn’t really know what I needed to be getting ready for. Plus mom got rid of basically every useful thing we had from grandma and grandpa because at the time no one really thought there was going to be an even worse disaster on the horizon. Which seems really out of character for my family in general. I feel like we should be well aware that there is an infinite amount of “It can always get worse” out there after all these decades of tragedy. My grandfather was a very gregarious, humorous, kind of guy, but at the same time he instilled a fatalistic philosophy subtly into all the family on my maternal side. It seems really ironic that we keep getting blindsided as a group. Maybe the optimistic part keeps clouding our perception.
To me it feels like the good times we were all striving for are never going to come. I’m not so much a fool to think that any outcome is promised to anyone, but it really felt like after everything else we all earned a few nice years before the final curtain was drawn. To quote a certain cartoon dog “I guess we’ll see.”

The outro.

I hope your week is going well. I’ll be back on Friday with more comic. Until then, stand strong in the face of adversity.

As to your family, man, I am sorry to read that. May your family find some semblance of peace, may you have some peace, may your mother conquer cancer and make it out of chemo. I lost my father almost four years ago, before my son’s first birthday. Father had been battling leukemia and was in chemo, then they fucked up something in his chest pump and he got an infection that pretty much took him out. He spent his last month in hospice at home and saw my children right before he passed. My mother currently has signs of dementia, particularly memory loss; she keeps calling my brother’s current wife by his ex wife’s name and talked about certain things we were already past.
