I had a moment of deja vu while making this, which doesn’t happen to me very often while making this comic. You’d think it would since I repeat so many actions, but it’s actually very rare. This isn’t even the kind of thing Reggie has really done before. Not that comes to mind anyway. I’m going to keep it short tonight. I’m tired. The patrons of the comic already know what’s going on but I don’t feel like bringing it up here right now. So if you know, you know, as they say. I hope your Wednesday is good as we step into a new month. On Friday I’ll return with more of what you come here for. Until then, start a new save file with Zelda as the file name.

First time I’ve seen her completely taken aback. Nice.

Reggie has really changed over the years. Good for him.

Most improved character in the strip.

That why you write characters with flaw; if you start with a perfect character, nothing to learn, you never get THIS; checking the comic nearly-weekly if not every update, absolutely worth it

Yeah, I’d say the Alex x John ship is firmly sunk.

Not a chance. John/Alex is endgame.

Oh, come off it already. John had his chance and didn’t know it so didn’t take it, and Alex moved on to the guy who offered himself freely and without judging. John is fine and Alex&Reggie are great for each other.

Jackie has apparently said John/Alex could still happen on Patreon, and John is ready to admit he loves her, too, now.

Hesitation being for lesser men explains a lot of what Reggie has done wrong.
Good to see cases of when it’s what he’s doing righ.

You gotta be honest with me man: Do you look forward to these romantic moments as much as I think you do?

Because I feel the love and passion in them when they pop up in the flow of the story.

I have no romantic love in my life so I create a facsimile in my work. The passion you feel is my sincere yearning to be loved.

That’s a mood buddy. It represents in the work very well, you communicate it skillfully to the reader. I hope the yearning is fulfilled in real life soon.

I have tasted love, and it no longer fills my palate. So I enjoy being able to feel love, in a sense, through the characters I read.

When I read today’s title “Love with Conviction”, my only thought was “that’s the only way, because without conviction, it’s not really love, is it?”

My first real relationship was with an Alex proportioned gal. Clever in similar ways too, though sadly more into partying and drugs than being geeky and books. As most relationships, particularly early ones, it didn’t work out but we did love each other fiercely and stayed in touch until she ODed on Fent one night a couple years ago. This panel reminded me of that young passion, and though I am loved now I do miss being loved like that, too.

Wow.
I’m really sorry to hear that this happened. I hope that you + everyone that were effected by her passing is doing OK.
I’m really sorry to hear about this event.

So, full on both eyes and blush in the second panel? You spoil us. That is the stuff dreams are made of.

Reggie flipped her bangs up, it looks like. Or she was so amazed by his declaration that they flew back by themselves.

Looked to me like when Reggie drew her in, it was so quick that it threw her head back, and her bangs just kept going.

Way to go, Reggie!

Grab that…uh…cat!

;D

Or as the song says: “DIG that CRAZY pelt!”

Ha!
I forgot that Reggie + Alex belong to the furries + cosplay club, called: “The Order of the Pelt”.

Can we call its members, “The Pelts”?

What an amazing writer, slowly but surely after a horrible first impression Reggie has transformed from a cookie cutter villain to my favorite character. Nice to see Alex bringing out the best in him and the two of them just enjoying the hell out of each other as each one escalates and are met with joy rather than alarm

Something Alex something turntables haha; always enjoy a good flustered/fluster-er flip, and while this wasn’t my initial pairing with Alex and not knowing how the story will end kudos for writing a compelling and believable relationship between these two, can see and enjoy the character growth brought about by this.

Jackie, little things like this, and pretty much every other thing with your characters is one of the things I really like about this comic. You do a short buildup with some comics and then punctuate the interaction with a cheer-worthy moment. And it doesn’t get old. So good job man.

Early Reggie was by far my least favorite character. It has been a real pleasure to see his growth over the years. The same could be said for Alex, who has gone from a shut in desperate for male attention to a confident outgoing person. Today is genuinely gratifying to see them get together

What a great comic page! Full of emotions. Surprise and passion. Control switches suddenly from Alex to Reggie. A big squishy mutual kiss. One of your best scenes so far.

Lesser men my ENTIRE ass. Hesitation is for SMARTER men.

WISER men, certainly. I think it takes experience to gain appreciation for hesitancy. I was much bolder with the risks I would take for my body in my youth because I really didn’t understand what a life with paralysis meant. Now I know, and I would never, for instance, take up longboarding down a road at night. I think Reggie will in time, gain an appreciation for hesitating and thinking first.

It all depends on whether one *should* hesitate. Sometimes one should hesitate, and sometimes they shouldn’t.

*KNOWING THE DIFFERENCE* is what makes one smarter and wiser. I’d say Reggie is doing just fine in that regard.

I don’t think Reggie would define knowing when to pause and think as “hesitating.” Hesitating feels like something he assumes is a lesser, unconscious response. If he purposefully paused to think something through, I think he’d call it something else.

Does this apply to romantic hesitation due to nervousness and no other discernable reason to hold back?

(Hopefully people will disagree on yes/no on this and give us reasons and we’ll be all the wiser for it.)

“Hesitation is for lesser men”
Confidence point unlocked. I’ve always hesitated, on everything. Side effect of neurodivergent kid coming up through our school system and all. I think I might be getting better about it now though. Thank you, Jackie.

Reggie has always gone by the mantra that he is not a lesser man. Hes never apologized for following his convictions before, just never understood how his actions never lined up with how his dad’s results.

It’s just that he’s been learning of late about being a better example of one.

Victoria once said that showing up five minutes early for every shift is one way Reggie differentiates himself from lessers.

Today? This certainly counts as another.

This is reminiscent of the first Thomas/Carol kiss where Between Failures transformed from black and white to color. I with these two the same luck.

I’m totally stealing the phrase “Hesitation is for lesser men!” I need something new to yell in PVP anyways.

My guess for the deja vu would be that Reggie has said lines similar to “Hesitation is for lesser men” before, although the previous times he was justifying acting without thinking with more…flammable results. It was closer to the beginning of the comic, I think Thomas was giving veiled insults to Reggie along the lines of “Not everyone would have the confidence to ‘do stupid thing’ that you have” with the line about hesitation being his reply.

On that note, good to see the lack of hesitation work for something far more positive.

Daaaamn boyyy. I’d like to echo some other comments – I didn’t expect to do such a 180 on Reggie back when we first met him. Now I’m rooting for him, i’m proud of him… I’m impressed he managed to so smoothly flip her bangs back without smacking her in the eye. Hell yeah, Reggie!

WOO-go Reggie!

Also, while I don’t hate John… yeah…its over bro, move on, you had your chance.
