Maddison may not be the sharpest pencil, but she knows at least something about manipulation, perhaps instinctually. Bridgette was originally going to be a character in the comic about Alex and her friend group, but I never got far enough along in it to establish much of her personality. She was just sort of a generic friend who wasn’t very connected to the rest of the cast as far as what established lore there was. After many years I’m finally getting around to filling in the gaps, except in her teeth. In many ways this worked out better because Victoria wasn’t part of the Alexandria Of The Library cast and she didn’t have any particularly strong friendships shown in Between Failures. I almost designed a friend specifically for her before I realized I had Bridgette just waiting around to be used for something. Now I can make her something of a counterpoint to Victoria’s dispassionate standard demeanor. I’ve made her fairly even, but prone to getting a bit more broad the more emotional she gets. I feel like she’s fitting in well. At this point I’m writing her with practically zero motivation. Generally I establish in my head what each character wants so I have a guide when they are confronted by the challenges of life. With Bridgette maybe she doesn’t particularly want anything other than to hang out and be cool. At the very least she’s looking for male companionship to some degree, which is really plenty of motivation to go with for a normal person. In some ways I’ve already written her as someone who is trying to decide what it is she wants and keeps getting pulled into doing whatever others want without thinking too deeply about it. In any case people seem to be enjoying her so far.

In other news mom is doing fine, all things considered. She gets tired very quickly and needs to rest often, but she has been doing many random tasks and going about her life. I follow behind and clean up, fetch things, and am generally on call. My care of her surgery wound was praised. I’m certainly not going to be the one who lets it get infected, so I have looked after it with as much care and skill as I have. As far as everything else goes I have no specific permission to speak about it so I won’t.

Anyway, that’s about all I have for you right now. I need to do somethings so I can’t sit here and write much more. I hope you have a pleasant weekend. On Monday I will return with more adventures of fake people. Until then, continue the mission.

Maddison brings out a side of me that fills me with a unique sense of shame, because I see her glaring immaturity as borderline bratty and yet I am inclined to want to see her overly indulged regardless.

I mean, the pepperoni scent part isn’t a dealbreaker by far. The eau de kid puke is an understandable suitor repellent though.

I think we’ll soon be calling this arc “The happiest day of Mike’s life”.

Jackie, you talk of “Alexandria Of The Library” as if it’s something we could know. Is it your older webcomic or something like that?

Or ar you not-so-secretly immortal and were you there for the real library of Alexandria? ;)

It is the comic I was originally going to make about Alex and the furries, which is where those characters originate from. I never had time to make two comics but I was unhappy that so many good characters were going unused. So I added them into Between Failures.

Sometimes making someone comfortable is all you can do for them, and it is a great thing to be able to do it. A lot of us have been there and understand.

Smelling like a hot pocket isn’t all bad, though might make for an awful innuendo. Kid puke is far from ideal.

John didn’t seem to mind the smell, as I recall.

You mess with the Maddie, then your chances go splatty.

First off, woo hoo your mom is doing as well as can be expected. As someone who has a dad with kidney issues and other possible problems, this is a very positive thing to hear for me. Secondly, I like the expressive larger eyes that you give Maddison when they’re talking about them. Third and finally, Bridgette’s a sweetheart and you’re doing a great job of instantly endearing her to the readers.

Glad for the comic, and glad for the health update.

If she’s able to eat, push vitamins and minerals. Your body gets depleted and you need to supplement.Doctors don’t tend to recommend anything that isn’t a prescription, and very often they’re to treat something caused by a shortage of nutrients. Or an overabundance of the chemo. Anymore it seems like its not a question of if you’ll get cancer, but when. Pray you’ll both stay strong. Bye.
