I was trying to look up an old post on reddit and happened across a guy who was shit talking my comic. That’s not uncommon or anything but some of the responses he was getting made it seem like people really didn’t like him and there was backstory. I, as you well know, am a big fan of backstory and wanted more.
I don’t use reddit very much but as I was looking at the post it occured to me that you can look at all of a users posts if you click on them. So I went to his profile and looked at his posts and started stalking around. This guy just goes to apparently every community he’s in a shit talks the same few points. No one listens, and no one likes him. It’s the first time I’ve seen posts that had negative plus marks or whatever the fuck they call them.
There were responses to him on a few posts that were like “We know, you come back every two months to post the same thing…”
Just some German guy who can’t seem to connect with people and is annoyed by just about everything. He had a whole section of posts about how he has bad dating results with Capricorns specifically.
Something about it all was extremely amusing to me and also made me feel a little bad for him.
He’s so critical about everything that he can’t get out of his own way.
If I met him in real life and was the same age he’s exactly the kind of person who would end up being my friend for decades even though I don’t really like him very much.
Just some poor German guy out there failing at everything and hating my comic every two months.
I suppose we will forever be unfriends, but I still pity him a little. It’s so hard to connect with people when you are so full of criticism and misery. I know his plight all too well. So, even though you think I suck, miserable German person, I hope you finally find a lovely Capricorn who will see past your outer schmuck and love the probably decent person you are inside.
Or if you’re a schmuck all the way down I hope you don’t drag anyone down with you. That’s what I’m trying to avoid.
I posted the bulk of that in the discord chat the other night and I thought it might make an amusing blog post. It’s also something I thought I’d like to remember later on and discord just fades into nothingness after a while as far as looking back goes. Anyway, here we are at the start of another week. I hope my offering finds you well and on a path to success. If not I hope it helps you find your way to it somehow. Let’s meet back up on Wednesday and if you have made a fortune please remember your poor artist friend struggling against the robots and algorithms out here on these mean internets. Until then, remember “do not be too eager to deal out death in judgment”.

Obviously it’d be too early for any couple in the comic to get married, but now that Victoria’s brought it up, would be an ideal time for John to pop in.
That second panel reminds me of Starship Troopers. the teacher goes on about value and hands Rico a note reading 100 meter dash First price, Rico gets angry that no he does not feel happy and he knows rico placed fourth to which teacher responds “you do not value the first price given because you know you didn’t earn it, but have some satisfaction of coming fourth”
Looking at our world, I am at times tossing a coin if we land in preöude to Starship Troopers or Judge Dredd in next 50 years.
England is on the cusp of V For Vendetta in spite of being warned about it for decades. We’re training the AI that will enslave us like in Dune, or simply murder us like Terminator. Hopefully humanity can blog, or tweet, our way out of trouble.
Of all the times to NOT have working space colonies.
Oh, this is lovely to find first thing on a dark Monday morning. (I kinda don’t like that I’m all caught up now. This is one of the most bingeable webcomics I know. Maybe I’ll start over from the beginning.)
If you return to the start I hope you enjoy it as much as the first time.
What about 1984?
I’ve read that book 20 years ago, and I should probably read it again to get a different insight, but the themes I remember seem pretty close to what some countries are experiencing today, and a bunch of others are heading towards that at a scary pace.
Constant surveillance.
Censorship of anything that upsets the government.
Politicians boldly lying without any consequences.
Rewriting history even.
Newspeak (“alternative facts” to talk about lies, political correctness and inclusive language, etc.).
Politicians relying on a cult status to stay in power.
Decentralised Internet was supposed to protect us from that, but the big platforms recentralised it, and the engagement algorithms make sure that we stay stuck with like-minded people to become more radicalised, rather than allowing us to see the other side of the coin and grow some tolerance.
Oh what brave new world, with such people in it.
BWM: But Ford’s in his flivver. Surely all is right with the world.
“Themed pizzarias” seems as great “local construction company,” especially if it gets bigger. Unless I’m mistaken and the Boothe family business is a massive, country-wide business that for some reason is still headquartered in middle-of-nowhere-Kansas.
But it is funny when this happens; it’s annoying enough when your average parent is convinced their kid is better than the others, for no reason, but it’s even more irritating when they use that as a basis to make their kid miserable. Like, if your kid was THAT great, they wouldn’t need to be beaten into shape, then, would they? It’s like saying “My kid is a genius…so long as I force him to study 6 hours a night.”
“What doesn’t kill me, makes me stronger.” .
Or-
As Lev says on the Tales of Mere Existence [tm]…humor site:
“What doesn’t kill me, wasn’t trying hard enough.” .
:)
Read your musings. Bless you. You’re a better man than many.
