Ko-Fi.

I’m really piling it on Evrina right now. Emotional distress with Jess, extreme lust with Carol, and now the man who knocked her off her perch, and stole her best friend. I almost feel sorry for her.

If this took place earlier in the story Carol and Thomas would probably be pretty shaken up too, but at this point even Carol has accepted Reggie. Maybe not as a friend, but at least as something other than an enemy. Reggie probably won’t give any thought to seeing them here outside of just noticing them and going on about his day. He tends to be pretty self absorbed and Evrina will likely catch all of his attention.

The spear wound thing is a little factoid I learned along the way and it really isn’t fair to call out Reggie for it. I don’t think it’s something most people would realize unless they are prone to giving these sorts of details a lot of thought. Victoria is a little faster on the draw than Reggie and also generally more aware and likely to remember minutia. She’s also his sister and prone to being less charitable to him because of their sometimes adversarial relationship. Of course they are becoming something more like fully functioning adults, so their sibling rivalry is easing a bit. Of course I say that while being nearly 50 and still having some level of rivalry with my own sister. It is quite possible that any rivalry is one sided and completely based on my own poor estimation of myself rather than any active antagonism on her part though. Of course as a man who makes a meager living drawing imaginary people it would probably be fair to say that I am not a mature participant in any situation. In any event I’m looking forward to creating the next part of my imaginary world if for no reason other than I will be extremely amused by it. If any outside observers are amused that will simply be a bonus.

Anyway, that’s about all I have for now. I look forward to seeing you on Friday. Until then, rotate like a heroic fist fighting tornado!

I know this one. The spear was inserted to verify that he was actually dead, and successfully verified that fact when the wound produced both blood and water. This resulted in them not breaking his legs, since he was already dead, fulfilling a prophecy about none of his bones being broken. One of my pastors talked about the why of this and medical details related to why it was blood and water, and how that proved he was actually dead, as well as why the legs were normally broken and the prophecies involved in that little detail. It’s stuck with me.

It’s interesting how much difference from one religious group to another there is with respect to Christ’s wounds. Growing up in the Southern Baptist Church about the only time I recall hearing much of the wounds was after the resurrection when Christ confronts the doubts of Thomas. There wasn’t much focus on things like the various wounds or the stations of the cross. I learned about a lot of that sort of thing following up on stuff I saw referenced in the fiction I was reading.

Honestly love that this restaurant has just become this gravitational force that sucks in the entire cast and creates a space for ever more shenanigans and amazing interactions xD

First God Be With Brew, tomorrow the world! Or at least Rulette’s, if Jessie, Jo, and Mike have anything to say about it. We know she’s already acquainted with the Order of the Pelt…

Whoa whoa whoa…. Jesus died? That’s messed up.
Yea dude, the spear wound is one of the seven (or five) holy wounds.
So its like…
NO IT IS NOT like DBZ where if you collect all seven you become God!

So does anyone wanna make bets on Evrina’s reaction to Alexandria

No bet, they know each other already.

Yes, but her gingerlust is raging out of control right now.
She may be comfortable with just being friends now, but she’s still off-balance enough for it to tip her into an even steeper spiral…

I would almost bet Alex knows chubby white girls are Evrina’s kryptonite. What someone as observant as Alex does with said information is going to be fun.

Let’s all three of us heroes ignore- that this one is in barbed wire, + therefore, likely- fictional. [Hoo boy]. [Heh, heh, heh!]

It probably wouldn’t have been barbed wire, more likely more thorns. But given the proliferation of small spinoff churches I wouldn’t eliminate the possibility. It could be Cowboy Church adjacent.

Yep.
I’m guessing that- iron age executioners +/or torturers, might add some accessories. My guess is- they didn’t really care for the comfort of the condemned people.
[Just thinking of this-it’s kind of sad, that the word, “torturers”, actually exists in the dictionary.]
*smirks*

Then the log said to the Roman soldier:
“Don’t make me cross!”
Ha yuk, yuk, yuk.
:D

We’re in our 30’s and my brother and I still act like siblings. Especially when it’s just us, and neither of us has to keep up appearances (like if his kid’s around, don’t want to set a bad example). We’re close in age, maybe that helps? Adult life will always win, but at least for a little while, we can still play video games and goof off.

If you were ever toying around any new plot ideas, With her sense of detail, having Alex do a soft audit of the store might be fun.

The spear wound supposedly (in as much as anything in the rest of the story actually happened) being post-death makes particularly silly a line from a TV show (decades old, whose name escapes me) where a bad guy is enthusing about finding the original spear/lance as “a weapon which killed a god!” He was already dead, dude, and in any case was in human form so wouldn’t have been that hard to kill anyway.

Can… Reggie SERIOUSLY not understand what she’s saying in the first panel? What about it is in any way that complex? Is it just because she used the word ‘abstraction’? I get there’s difficulty inherent to ‘writing a character that’s smarter than (most of) the others’ without making the average reader irritated/ confused, but Reggie seems like a bit of a dolt here!

Reggie isn’t stupid, he just has difficulty processing concepts when he isn’t focused on them. Alex used a lot more words to convey her concept than he could handle in the moment. His brain will process the concept in the background while outwardly he will be irritated. Subconsciously he already understands what she said but his waking mind needs a moment to catch up. He also wasn’t looking at her when she spoke, so his thoughts were competing with what she was saying. If you look back at his history you’ll see he always comes off as smarter when he’s focused on someone and not distracted by other stimuli.

I don’t think I consciously realized that until I read the strip and thought about why Vicky absorbed their crucifixion lore better than he did, but it’s fairly apparent from how sharp he was when inspecting the old hotel and finding the bunker.
He’s prone to hyperfocus, which never helped his relationship with his coworkers, exempting perhaps Jo before the fire incident. Now, though, it seems he’s growing as a person and finding reasons to pay attention to people he would have settled for resenting before.

Even though their relationship is improving, fairness doesn’t strike me as a habit in the Boothe household, and it’s very easy for the clever and observant to harshly judge those lacking in either trait – especially those they care for enough to hold them to any standard.
