252 Greetings Starfighter.
I bought Willow today to cheer myself up. I always intended to add it to my collection of “Movies that kind of suck, but are still kind of awesome”, but never got around to it. Nick and I had some good laughs over that movie.
The Last Starfighter is another one of those films. Jolene’s last line is from said film. If you haven’t seen it, track that shit down and watch it with a clever friend… Or a regular friend if you’re the clever one in your group.
Also, I like the new cherry M&M’s. I never noticed that the name is possesive before, like Reese’s. What would Mitch have said about that?

^.^ I love that movie. “A desperate battle against incredible odds!” I’m so happy you referenced it! No one seems to like to comment, huh? I would, but if I commented on every page it would look more like spam :P
No wonder I like your writing style. Althoug Cloack & Dagger should’ve been enough warning.
i loved the last starfighter when i was younger…..
I still love “The Last Starfighter” now!
I was wondering why it sounded familiar.
sigh its been years since ive seen The Last Starfighter
wait, has anyone else noticed that her font is different when she quotes?
Yep.
Ha, I had forgotten about this page. I was raised on that movie. I’m glad I’m not the only one who remembers it!
GAH okay she has outdone it now. Uber hugs for brooksie!
Definitely insulted.
OMG, The Last Starfighter reference! <3
/me gloms the author
The “last” starfighter? Couldn’t they just make another, if they had one? Or is it “person who fights stars” as opposed to “small starship built for fighting other small starships”?
Here’s how I remember it going:
All the starfighters launched together, except one that was lacking a pilot. (They had actually found a pilot for that one, but he was the protagonist and he balked for a while.) All the starfighters got destroyed, leaving one. The last one. The last starfighter.
Spoiler: I’m sure you are surprised to hear it, but the protagonist stopped balking and agreed to fly the last starfighter into battle, and singlehandedly saved the day.
Presumably they did indeed build more starfighters once the day was saved. And maybe they put away a few spares? It’s inconvenient when all your starfighters have been destroyed.
It’s not the best movie ever, but it has its moments. My mom really liked the fact that Robert Preston had a supporting role; she was a fan since the 60’s. (He was in The Music Man and others.)
Re-reading this comic, just realized you misspelled my name.
Oh my god, Last Starfighter. I remember that movie.
I loved Robert Preston as Centauri. I dare anyone to watch that and NOT hear “Trouble in River City” running through their heads. Or the Monorail episode of the Simpsons.
First: Last Starfighter was awesome, but terrible.
Willow is awesome and hated one for reasons I’ve never understood, other than the explanation “It tried to fit too big a world into the movie.” Which is true but ignores that they never made those complaints about Star Wars.

I’ve*
There’s a lot of people who object to Val Kilmer, and seem to especially object to him in any action role.
Which is funny, because I can’t think of anyone they could have picked at the time who would have been better to fall victim to the dust of broken hearts *and* handle the action parts of that role.
I’ve also heard complaints about Warwick Davis’ selection for the title role, but I don’t recall any of those complaints actually naming him; all of the ones I recall referred to “the guy who played Willow”. It seems fairly ridiculous to me, as it seemed like the role was basically made for him. I think most of those complaints were also more about the character portrayed, such as the one that complained that Willow was cast poorly because he had such unbelievable difficulty restoring Fin Raziel’s form.
The complaints I’ve heard that grate on me the most are the ones that proclaim such things as “The movie makes it sound like all midgets are badasses.” It appeared to me like it showed that there was one Nelwyn and six Daikini who were badasses (roughly half of which were not good people), and that, just like real life, most people preferred to not attempt to answer the call of heroism and advised others to do likewise.
I have a shirt with this on it!

The what and who?
Loved both those movies. The scene with the double before it was fully formed…dang…leaves an impression. And, well, Willow was one of my first movie crushes. xD
