Ko-Fi.
I don’t really have anything to report, and I’m actually thankful for that. Nothing happening is really nice. I’ve just been doing my regular things and tooling around with mom as needed.
I guess I’ll just leave it at that. Having a little time to catch up on things is probably a better time for all of us than me using it to write out whatever nonsense spills out of my head. I’ll be back on Friday with more. Until then, bury 10K bells for a better money tree.

Whats the TL:DR with Thomas being upset with her?
I’m guessing we’ll get to it
If memory serves, he had some issues with Rulettes dad and she didn’t back him up.
Can’t remember which strip it had but that got side mentioned either when talking about her dad or how she knew Thomas.
Welp time to re-read just to get context
That’s the best part about this comic. :D
#1740 – 1741 touches on it. There’s more later on, but that’s as good a starting place as any.
Gotta do side quests until your faction reputation is high enough.
Looks like someone plays X4.
I was thinking EverQuest, but there are plenty that work.
Disagree. You’ve just been trained to react this way the second a woman has to face even one moment of accountability.
That’s a very specific accusation to make against a fellow reader. Because of that comes across like you have your own axe to grind more than a valid take.
She has done something wrong in the last few scenes though. Flirting with a happily monogamous guy who she knows has a girlfriend set the tone for the entire conversation.
Being flirtacious does not inherently imply intent. There’s plenty of flirting that is just puppy like friendliness, which seems to me the sort of person Rulette is
She didn’t even deny flirting with him, she just said she might one day start feeling bad about it.
Also, he’s being very upfront about the issue. I think a douche move would be being all “if you don’t know whats wrong that’s it own problem” about it. He’s very straightforwardly reminding her that she did something that he can’t just get over with no effort on her part, and that they’ve talked about this before. And he did so in a language she is specifically versed in.
You know I’ve never put it in terms of side quests vs main quest and such, but this did make me realize I do have people that I’d label as friends that due to past events I only interact with in group settings.
Looking forward to learning more, because man seeing Rulette’s face I’m assuming she’s maybe just now realizing how different she’s read whatever the past situations amounted to compared to Thomas.
Gotta keep him in your party to get all those approval increases.
Thomas has previously been shown as someone who doesn’t forgive folks easily, if at all, past a certain point. He mentioned that he had to reforge his broken love for his ex into searing hatred because he couldn’t deal with the way things ended otherwise, which was heavily implied to have been an emotional affair that led to her dating the other guy right after dumping Thomas.
And considering the way his ex treated him when she met him again – taking it for granted that she could basically swoop in and rekindle the friendship on her terms without even trying to pay attention to his behavior and see if he was okay with it – that’s probably a learned behavior. When you deal with people who have badly broken your trust and they still think they have a right to hang out with you as if it’s all water under the bridge without having done a single thing to fix or atone for it, if you have any self-respect, you have to push yourself to hate them for what they did so you can cut them out of your life entirely, because they’re too willfully oblivious and self-centered to accept that they did something they can’t just “oh whoopsie” away with a smile on their face.
Had an old boss who once said “it takes 100 ‘atta boys’ to make up for one ‘oh shit’.”
The same goes for broken trust. Trust can be handed out free to start with, but it’s gotta be earned back if it’s broken.
Broken trust is so much worse than no trust at all. I wish it were possible for the human brain to just “reset” in regards to another human being, but, sadly, there’s no disconnecting those logical and emotional threads. Some people can do it, and I’ve always felt there was something fundamentally wrong with those people, to just be able to flip a switch and start over from scratch. Whatever happened between Rulette and Thomas, knowing his personality, she’s lucky the proverbial olive branch was extended at all. It was done on behalf of his friends, those he does trust, and I don’t think Rulette has quite grasped that yet. He doesn’t want to be friends with her. One of them – and I’m inclined to side with Thomas on this one – already burnt one bridge down between them. But his friends are becoming friends with her, so he is at the very least going to attempt to be civil. Engaging in the same kind of behavior that burnt down the last bridge is not how Rulette should go about attempting to build a new one. When it was suggested that they ‘put the past behind them’, she expected that bridge to have just magically rematerialized, not understanding that Thomas had memorialized the wreckage, as he is wont to do. They need a whole new bridge, and that takes time.
