It’s always been difficult to make it clear when a character is speaking softly. What I’ve done has always been to remove the black border on the speech bubble. Making the text smaller is also something I do, but I don’t like making it much smaller because then I can’t read it. I assume that if I can’t read it then there will be others who can’t as well. I feel like the dialogue makes clear what Evrina was doing, but I can never tell if everyone is going to get what’s going on. People often surprise me with their inability to understand things I think are obvious.

I tend to make the text super small when characters are whispering. The reader then has to squint to see what they said, similarly to how someone has to pay close attention to what someone is saying to understand their whispers. (Not too small that the reader has to Zoom—>200% tho.
It’s even funnier when the interaction becomes “What—“ “NOTHING!!!”

“…and tell me that you love me…”

That was almost the title of the page.

Evrina’s comments remind me of a novel.

The novel is a 1967 book by Trudy Baker…and other[s], about: airline stewardesses/women flight attendants, + their paramour-like, and racy, adventures.

The book is named:
“Coffee, tea, or Me?”

I hadn’t thought about that book in a couple of decades. I read it as a teenager in the late 70’s. I remember it being presented as pretty hot but it was really more titillating than pornographic.

Maybe try fading the text just a bit, so you don’t have to make the text too much smaller?

What you did to show Evrina’s under her breath comment was perfect. Don’t change a thing.

Something that Charles Schultz (and others) have done is using the slightly smaller print, within a larger speech bubble.

Maybe for whispering you could try making the speech bubble a dotted line instead of a solid one? I dunno. Great page, all the same.
