I mean, I’d ask a medical examiner if DNA lasts that long, but that’d probably get me on a watchlist for all their cold case murders.

It can last far, far longer. We’ve done genetic testing on old mummies and such. Now, the DNA is usually damaged, so you can’t get like an exact match to an exact person, but they can tell what halotype a body was from and stuff like that.

Iirc you can get good results up to 5000 years. More ancient, the DNA has a high chance to be damaged. But that depends on a lot of conditions
