That goddamn weird chemical smell that happens sometimes is back again. Faint and sickly sweet just like last time. Everywhere and nowhere. It drives me nuts and since I can’t figure out what starts it I don’t know how to prevent it. I was already having a hard time sleeping because I hurt my back so bad burying Sister that it still hasn’t healed. The fucking odor makes me almost wish I had Covid again so I couldn’t smell anything. Like, it would almost be better if it was a gross smell because growing up in a cattle town having the world smells like shit is normal to my brain whereas having it smell like some kind of chemically perfume drives me nuts.
There was a faint smell of death that even mom could smell before she left. I could catch a whiff of it too but couldn’t pinpoint the location. Usually that means something has died someplace in the house that we can’t get to. I think that maybe when that happens as the corpse rots it transitions into this sweet smell I don’t like, possibly from dying of poison rather than just being killed by a mouse trap. We avoided using poison in the past because of the danger it poses to the dogs but now that they are all gone. At least the ones who might try to eat a mouse, we put a little in places where traps don’t work. I could be completely wrong on that.
It’s very much the same smell and mom thinks it might be from crop dusting, but it’s never been like this in the past. Even when they got a little on the house it wouldn’t last for days.
All I know is it makes me feel slightly ill and disrupts my sleep. It’s probably slowly giving us all cancer too. Anyway, that’s all I have to report until Monday. I hope to see you here if the odor monster doesn’t get me.

The thing is, Thomas really hit the nail on the head.

While it is true Reggie messes up a lot, people having a defeatist mindset about him and immediately think he won’t succeed kinda results in a self-fulfilling prophecy. Not to mention said attitudes do contribute a bit to his personality being not so great.

Misspelled ‘management’ in Thomas’s second speech bubble in 2708’s last panel. Anyway, I hope the smell goes away soon :)

Do you live near a fruit tree or something similar? Sometimes that kinda smell is the start of some fruit fermenting on the tree.

Ozone generator cheap off ebay. Follow the instructions, and don’t crank it over to constant on and walk off and leave it for hours like my sister did.

That smell: I agree with the posters above: get some type of air filtration. If you have a central forced-air type system, change the filter to one with embedded carbon. It’s more expensive but it gets rid of all the smells throughout the house. If you don’t have a forced-air system, then get a stand-alone unit. Hopefully your issue is a seasonal one and not a dead animal in your walls. Of course if you had indoor pets and now don’t there may be hidden waste which wasn’t cleaned thoroughly enough. There are products that do that but you have to use a strength greater than they recommend and let it soak for it to be truly effective. For example, if you have carpet then the padding may be molding and needs to be replaced, an potentially treat the sub-floor with the pet waste cleaner. A house I bought had a similar issue in one corner, and I wound up replacing a section of the sub-floor due to the mold.

Comic: you really hit the managing people nail right on the head. I’ve been in leadership positions in one way or another for over 40 years and the key to a working team is the manager knowing how to motivate its members. I’ve seen managers destroy teams because they either didn’t know or worked against what you wrote. Bravo to you!

Usually a sickly-sweet smell in a house indicates a refrigerant/coolant leak in the HVAC or your refrigerator. It’s the ethylene glycol. That shit is toxic AF to drink but just the smell should’ve be overly bad for your health. A coolant leak can, however, overwork the compressor and cause it to burn out, so you’ll want to have the HVAC (or refrigerator) checked for proper pressure in the coolant tubes.

Fun fact: if you have an unexplained fishy odor in your house? Run, do not walk, run to the breaker panel and make sure that’s not the source of the smell. A breaker that’s overheating on the inside and on the verge of catching fire will put out a strong fishy odor.

Err, “should’ve” is a typo. Merely the smell of ethylene glycol SHOULD NOT be overly bad for your health.
