Mistakes were made. Life is a gamble.

My sleep schedule is still off kilter. I’ve been awake in the daytime, which is abnormal for me and I don’t like it. My body suddenly remembered how to be sleepy after, like, a few years of just not seeming to know how to cause it anymore. It’s all just part of the magical cycle of life, I guess. I want to go to sleep and it’s only 8PM… I will most likely wake up at 1AM, because I typically only need 5 hours or so of sleep. I’ll probably be awake for an hour or so and then suddenly go back to sleep until 7 or 8. I’m on this weird, two stage, sleep pattern. It’s whatever, I guess.
I fell asleep in a chair the other day. I couldn’t tell you the last time I actually fell asleep sitting up that wasn’t in a moving vehicle. We’ve got these really weird chairs in the living room that are kind of like a fourth of a couch and for whatever reason I’m capable of sleeping in them. It’s very odd to me.
Anyway, I guess I’ll leave it at that. We’re on to a new week of adventure. I hope the comic gets you started off right. On Wednesday I’ll try and move you along a little more. On Friday we’ll see the weekend in together. XD Until then, yo Joe!

Know that it’s not your fault. And knowing is half the bottle.

G.I. Barkeep! Lol

If there was a GI Joe specializing in getting people sober where would he hail from? This question is going to bother me until I get an answer of some kind.

I’m not sure. Hm.
There is a real life forum or community, called- “Sobertown”.
(It can be found on sobertownpodcast [dot] com .)

The goal of the people on the Sobertown site, is to: give people tips on moving past alcohol addiction, and to share inspiring stories about [moving past alcohol addiction, and moving past addictions of other addicting substances].

That’s very kind of Evrina…a message of: I don’t want to distract your date, while you’re here, ED. I’ll go cover up.

I learned recently than two stages sleeping schedule is actually how it historically was. People would go to sleep, wake up in the middle of the night, do stuff during one or two hours then go back to sleep until the morning. It changed with the new organization of work where people have to come back home later and wake up earlier so that they have to cram all the sleep hours together.

The invention of artificial lighting that was better than candlelight made a big difference, too. Before then, there wasn’t much to do after the sun went down besides go to sleep, but (especially in northern latitudes) the period from sunset to sunrise is often 12 hours or more. So people would sleep a few hours, wake up and do what they could by candlelight for a while, then go back to sleep.

It’s funny because being on meds for just over a year, I’ve noticed that I had been sleeping like that more and more, and then sure enough just as we were hitting winter this year, I went from doing two sessions of sleep every few days to it being a daily occurrence. I’ve definitely attributed the shift due to the little amount of daylight I’ve been getting up here in northern latitude land

In fact, artificial lighting is basically what made the new organization of work possible.

Not only that but it also has a neurological impact on sleep, the second sleep thing is actually almost impossible when you have artificial light around. Studies were done to try and replicate the phenomenon and simply going to bed early and not needing to be up until late wasn’t sufficient by itself, people either took forever to fall asleep or woke up early and couldn’t get back to sleep, either way they did their normal sleep cycle of one block, however long that block is for those people. It wasn’t until they had some subjects go to only using natural light sources like the sun and candles and not being around electric or chemical lights at all for a few weeks that they started to naturally fall into the two sleeps schedule, even when they weren’t trying to deliberately invoke it, like for instance if they stayed up until late so they could do all the sleep in one block until dawn or later, they still woke up in the middle of the sleep cycle for a couple hours and then felt a strong need to return to bed for another cycle.

For reference a full REM cycle lasts roughly four hours, IIRC it takes around 3.5 hours to go through stage 1-4 of sleep and around a half hour to go through REM, after completing REM the body is really close to awakening, but if it doesn’t then it goes back to sage 3 and cycles between stages 3, 4, and REM a few times before awakening. Overall, for most people, this process lasts around 8 hours, under the two sleep model, however, you wake up after the first REM and then when you return to bed in a couple hours you start over again from stage 1 and awaken again after REM finishes again. This is why the body needs at least 4 hours of sleep to be properly functional, because you need to hit REM at least once and complete it. If you pull an all nighter before something important like an exam or work or whatever and you have a few hours to spare before you need to get going, if you have less than 4 hours you are better off staying up the whole way through than catching 1-3 hours of sleep, because interrupting the process part-way leaves you groggy, disoriented, and with rather poor cognition for a good, long while.

Many children were conceived in this “mid night” hour. Everyone else in the house is asleep, especially other kids, so mom and dad can get a little privacy.

I’m a little surprised that Evrina is nonplussed by this comment. Has she not been waitressing for very long? The sassy ones usually get more sass back, but it’s a normal part of the job of playing host, waiting on and putting people at ease, to get comments, leers and propositions. That happens even at places withoout a liquor licence.

It’s because it’s Nina. If it was a different person she’d react differently.

Ah! A fact I forgot, thankee. In other news, Ed is *not* blushing. His expression is blank enough that I doubt he even hears Evrina’s aside, but we’ll see what happens next. To quote Nina, “hee hee hee hee hee heeee”

Bear in mind how much of a crush she had on Nina back in the day
Whether or not she knows Nina doesn’t quite swing that way, that’s gonna have an impact

It makes me think Nina is very close to playing quidditch.

And as much as Ed would like that, he might be annoyed with Evrina for it.

Ah she reminds me of my Ex… actually all my Exs, short and soft, cuddly while venomous… ah there’s nothing better then a busty short thicc girl that can dead pan knock your ass out if they were really trying, I remember my second girlfriend suplexing me onto the couch, she missed but I couldn’t be mad.
