While I was working today I accidentally went down a rabbit hole of videos about the bleak future of job applications, and employment in general, with the inclusion of AI into the dystopian mix. It wasn’t a series of videos that filled me with joy I can tell you. Although I was glad that I will likely never have to apply for a job ever again. I always kind of thought that human resources lingo had kind of plateaued as far as the dystopian phraseology was concerned, but I was wildly incorrect. They are edging ever closer to simply describing workers as batteries that run the great machine that controls all of our lives…

I don’t have anything particularly interesting to talk about, but I did change the residents of my Animal Crossing island over the course of the last few weeks. I obtained the portrait of Kitt the kangaroo and Marty the bear cub, then switched them out for Twiggy the bird and Beardo the bear. Marty is one of the Sanrio crossover villagers and I really disliked him. My intention was for him to only live in town for a short time but I stopped playing for a while and it ended up being six years. I replaced him with Beardo because he’s so odd and creepy. He lived in my New Leaf town, and maybe some others, and I just decided he would be fun to switch out Marty with. Kitt I had no particular problem with I was just sick of her face. I switched her for Twiggy because the game remembers every villager who ever lives in your town, but now they can visit via the hotel and they will remind you if you talk to them. Twiggy was a day one villager but I never got her portrait because I wanted better villagers. So I let her move back in to get her portrait. After that she can move out again. I can’t remember my first few villagers anymore. Although I may have taken screenshots… I should look and see. Regardless I’m going to pay attention from here on out and move anyone back in who I missed getting a portrait for. Unless I accidentally happen upon one while visiting another island or something. It’s unlikely but it has happened before. I consider my other villagers permanent residents, so it’ll only be one or two changes at a time. In case your curious my current residents are: Ankha, Opal, Peggy, Raymond, Jaques, Marina, Celia, Twiggy, Beardo, and Sasha. I might actually let Celia move out, even though I like her design a lot, just because I’d like more new faces. Or maybe old faces I like better. Sasha is also up for debate since I don’t love his personality type. Marina is also potentially on the move out list, but there aren’t many octopi villagers and I’ve already had the two best in town before. Inkwell isn’t a choice anymore either as far as I know. So that’s a pool of 4 with Octavian, Marina, Cephalabot, and Zucker. I think it’s the smallest animal group in the game. The new splatoon villagers are squirrels, I think.

Anyway, I haven’t done much besides work and wander around with mom, so I don’t have a lot to report. I hope your Monday starts off a nice week. I’ll see you on Wednesday again. Until then, may the crystal guide you.

My sentiments exactly. Except I’m short, so it rarely happens. Tall, well endowed ladies are kinda difficult. That’s eye level to me. You end up looking over their head or at their feet. “I like your hair. Nice shoes”.

I’m not sure how AI could make things any worse than HR already does. HR is a indeed a nightmare world of performative nonsense; you have to speak the language to get far enough to be considered for a job that, otherwise, has no connection to that language. If anything, AI might be helpful in getting your resume actually considered by the clique that is HR Karens. If AI use means it bypasses their cranial-rectal inversion, great, that shouldn’t be the thing screening out applicants; if anything, I’m more prone to thinking that people who are loved by the HR departments are the ones I don’t want. And if the result is that all resumes are the same, good; all that should matter is the actual information contained in the resume, and your interview(s), not whether you formatted it ideally or misspelled something (unless those are directly relevant to the job in question).

Unfortunately what’s happening is that HR is deciding that certain keywords are required to be in your resume or no human will ever see it. In the engineering field it means that someone who has the exact type of experience you want never has a chance because the company uses the electric boogaloo II for data tracking. The fact that no one else in the industry uses it doesn’t matter. So now you have people with the exact experience that you want never making it to the HR screen much less interviewing with someone who actually knows what the job needs.

Throw in the rise of “ghost jobs,” or jobs the company will never actually fill but posts for data collection and other nefarious purposes, and the end results get worse.

Yeah, see, I feel like all of that was happening anyway; some HR manager would throw out anything that didn’t tickle his testicles in just the right way, and the people desperately looking for help wouldn’t get it. So having access to AI, well, I guess I’m just hoping it lets applicants bypass that BS by copying whatever the HR AI is looking for. If it all looks the same, the HR people might have to actually use some critical thinking skills, actually talk to people, before making a judgment. But maybe I’m simply being an optimist.

I wonder if we’ll see younger Thomas or if this will just be a verbal stroll down memory lane; regardless seems at least Rulette is trying to be positive, some fingers crossed this convo does help to patch things up.

And also again want to give props to the character writing, had a similar conversation with my ex several years after we started dating making fun of our awkward selves in middle and high school.

Love – or lust – is blind. Apparently Patty really didn’t catch on to Thomas and Carol during the hotel incident, because she seems to be trying awfully hard to get him back.

Either that, or she doesn’t care that he’s in a committed relationship. I’m not ready to believe that about her, because that would make her the worst type of person there is, and so far she’s been quite likeable.

It’s possible she noticed it, but isn’t actually trying to break anything up. She could just be saying “I made a mistake, you’re actually quite a catch, too bad I missed my chance.” I don’t think it’s bad to say that, so long as you then drop it and move in–if she keeps going on and on about it, then yeah, it gets uncomfortable.

Well….she said “if I thought you would have me” which leads me to believe that she knows that he would “NOT” have her and is openly claiming that knowledge…which while pushing my opinion to the the side of she’s NOT trying to break him and Carol up does make me suspicious of what role her father played in the tragedy that caused this grudge to begin with…

And if we knock a decade off both their ages, and he was shorter (and fatter) I could see his eye level possibly being low enough for her to poke him in the eye…

Another one (along with Jess & Nina) proving that Carol’s theory about her dating him giving him value doesn’t seem to hold up.
