It is in the nature of most humans to assign importance to numbers when the actual importance is perhaps questionable. I’ve never before allowed a large round number to guide how I write. If you look into the archive you’ll see that at 100 pages it’s just another part of the story, and at 200, 300, 1000, 2000… I generally see the urge to land important things on a specific page number as a trap. It just so happened that in the lead up to 3000 I landed in a transitional part of the story and had a bit I wanted to do that could last essentially as many pages as I needed. So I jumped from groups of cast members until most everyone got to have an appearance before the 3000th page. Ramon and Evrina have featured a lot recently, so I didn’t jump to them. Wes is probably the character with the least screen time and I gave him a bonus page for a throwaway gag that was really just for my amusement. I even introduced a new minor character, which was also just a treat for myself. Some of you figured out part of what she’s referencing, but not all of it. In fairness it’s pretty obscure, so we can overlook that. Anyway, we find ourselves here at page 3000 with something that is again mostly important to me. In case you don’t know Thomas is referencing the final line of one of Mark Twain’s short stories: Eve’s Diary. The line is spoken at Eve’s grave by Adam. In it’s original context it is a lament, but here it is expressed romantically. It doesn’t matter where I am as long as I’m with you. Though I have no such person the sentiment resonates with me. I hope each of you can find your Eden someday.
For now however I will leave you to your own devices. I hope your week starts off well. I will return to you on Wednesday and we’ll see where this takes us. Until then, keep cool and dry.

I love this page for number 3000.
Thank you for continuing to make one of my favorite comics.
I was here!
I was a part of the Class of 3000!
Yay!
We readers were here for 3000!
:D
Well, you can still celebrate it, even if the page itself is just another page.
But my dude, you have been drawing this comic for 19 years! That’s quite an accomplishment. Aside from my marriage, I’ve not spent 19 years at any single thing.
I tend to think of milestones like the real physical milestones/mile markers: the view and scenery could be amazing or could be forgettable at that particular spot, but the fact the number is as high as it may be means it’s been a hell of a journey to get there (and yeah you can go in the direction the number decreases but haha); so congrats on this page, congrats on all the pages that got us here, and here’s to many more!
Congrats on 3000 pages! Can’t wait for 3000 more and beyond. Thanks for bringing us this story day in and day out.
Hello I discovered your comic a few weeks ago and I’m caught up. You spin some great storylines.
My favorite was when they discovered the bomb shelter. When they saw the picture in the dead man’s hand I had Alphaville’s Forever Young playing in my head.
I love the characters, hard to pick a favorite though I love the character development on Reggie. He reminds me of Eric from the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon.
Well anyways congratulations on 3000 comics and I’m looking for more.
I sometimes worry Thomas’ laid back take could frustrate Carol. But I really get it, I’m similar. It’s like, if I have an issue I’ll speak up, but unless I do I’m happy to do/go wherever my wife would rather.
I’d worry more my choices might mean someone going where they don’t really want to go out of wanting to please me, which I’d hate.
I also get a form of ‘choice paralysis’ which isn’t helpful.
Just started a re-read of the archive, as I like to do that once in a long while.
3000 man, going strong and such a gift, thank you for sharing it with us.
That’s a nice set of lips to reach her ass from that distance, Thomas.
And three thousand strips. In a world where most webcomics gave up for any of a hundred reasons, three thousand is certainly not a mean feat.
Huz-blimmin-zah! And yeah, I feel Carol’s frustration starting to pile up here. She’s asking you to get specific, and she hasn’t preloaded the choice by expressing her own choices. I’m pretty sure she has at least one.
But he already told her he doesn’t have any place in mind. She asked, he answered, so the ball is back in her court. So she can either pick something herself, or – if she also doesn’t have any place in mind – they can spin a globe and stop it with their finger to choose a place.
I remember when you finished the first arc, and i just yelled all that happened in one day?!
“I hope each of you can find your Eden someday. ”
You can’t know how much I appreciate this. Pretty jealous of Thomas. Thanks for your efforts , Jackie.
