Here we are, ready for another Monday. What is there to talk about? Should I just leave it alone and let you go about your lives unmolested by the contents of my brain. Not counting the comic, of course. I didn’t really do anything of note over the weekend. I decided I needed a quick mounting/unmounting bracket for my new drawscreen, so I just ordered a cheap one. If it turns out that it isn’t very good I’ll look into one made by the company that made my screen arm. I suspect that all you pay for in most cases is branding, since most things originate in China anyway still and the other versions are functionally identical sans a trusted logo. I guess if I’m proven wrong this time more the fool me. Sometimes I want to take the screen off the arm and it’s difficult and a little dangerous to do. Being able to do it without messing around with screws would be good. I just didn’t feel like paying 40$ to do it when it looks like ten dollars worth of metal. This screen is supposedly 17 pounds, but I swear it feels heavier than that. Maybe it’s because the weight is so evenly distributed across such a wide area, but it feels heavier than a TV that’s 1/2 times larger.

I’ve become so accustomed to the size of the Huion screen when I hold the Surface in my hands I think “How did I ever make the comic on this tiny thing?” If Microsoft made a screen as thin as the Surface that is as big as the Huion, or even bigger, I would move Heaven and earth to obtain one. I really feel like they are leaving money on the table by not competing seriously in that market. Of course Microsoft is in such a sad state as far as leadership goes I’m just happy I got my most recent Surface before they shoved AI’s dick all the way down their throat and out their asses. Who knows what the next iteration will be like? Supposedly they are moving away from AI since users have been so firm about not wanting it. I’ll believe it when I see it. I suspect they will be hiding AI learning stuff inside their products to transmit back to them from here on out regardless of what they say. Of course I thinks that’s true of all companies so it’s not like that’s a big call out for Microsoft in particular.

As far as me wanting a Microsoft screen when I have the Huion goes it basically comes down to image crispness. The Surface screen is very clear and the Huion is softer. It’s essentially identical to my ancient Cintiq apart from having modern resolution. I prefer a harsh sharpness to my screens. I’ve been this way since the days of the NES. If I can turn up the sharpness on a screen I will go as far as I can before it starts to look weird. If I could get that glass like clarity from the Huion that would be ideal. I haven’t seen any touch screen that has that kind of look on anything larger than a tablet. If one exists I didn’t find it in my search for a larger screen. It seems to me that the surface at least proves that it’s possible, but I admit I don’t know the limits of physics. The surface has a whole ass computer inside it that is like half an inch thick and only overheats when you really tax it. If you could just pull the screen off I feel like the cooling issue would be something you could solve in the tiny tower that would be left over. Again though, I don’t know if that’s how things actually work. I’ve just seen that usually things get smaller over time but computer towers are still really large. I don’t need some disco ball bullshit in my computer. A box that stays cool and allows me to do what I want is fine with me. I’m not trying to impress kids with my jolly rancher jackass lights and sounds. I just saw that someone took a Gamecube and miniaturized it down to something that would fit in your pocket. I kind of feel like that’s where computer towers should be going. We need bigger screens and tinier computers.

Frankly I was amazed that the Surface could run the Huion without it being a big drain on power or whatever. I mean it saved me thousands of dollars just being able to run a USBC cord to the Surface and it instantly knew the assignment. It may as well have been magic. Used to when you tried to do things with computers it was a huge fucking hassle. Now things just stick together and work. I never even installed the drivers for the screen. The Surface makes it go just fine and I don’t fully trust any Chinese program to not send all my stuff to some dark corner of the CCP. I don’t need the communist looking at my art and trying to reverse engineer it into propaganda. Of course they’d probably look at it and be like “What the fuck is wrong with these capitalist pigdogs? This story never goes anywhere! And why are there so many fat girls?” The communist don’t appreciate my American fatties! I won’t stand for it. In fact I won’t exercise at all for it, nor will my girls. Heart disease will take us long before the communists ever do!

I once acquired a “TV box” for Android that basically outperformed my ancient Toshiba Netbook still chugging on Windows 7 Starter XD. It apparently is a quad core processor with decent specs and USB 3.0 ports along with HDMI port. Connected to a good monitor, it works pretty good for the limited media use I have for it, like streaming and gallery images. I suppose it’s similar to what’s inside the Surface tablets; but I would think you would be able to find a true 8K touchscreen big enough to use for your work?

As for the comic, this is a good place to move to other arcs. I like the interactions between the three of them and would like to see more.

Will add once again that this arc has been so enjoyable, I hope we see them interact at this level again.

Thinking about it, this arc has made me realize that three characters is like a sweet spot for me when it comes to interactions. Solo is focused and/or reflective, and too large of a group (think meeting up with family over the holidays) rarely results in everyone in the same conversation at the same time, as they usually break down into smaller groupings/pairs with their own sidebars. Small groups (let’s say 3-5?; writing as the thoughts are forming which is always a potential disaster) have that feeling that you are outnumbered when it comes to “yes, add”-ing or “no, but”-ing the direction of a conversation, since a pair you’re at least on even ground; and while a group of 5 can break into 2/3, a set at 3 is it: either you take part and see where it goes or you leave. I have found myself at the end of most every comic in this arc waiting to see how who the passive character would respond (for example, both Bridgette and Victoria after John pours out which led to the silent panel, or single like Victoria after John got the first kiss).

Apologies for the ramble; hope everyone has a good start to their weeks!

Does John have any idea how lucky he is? Not only does he have two hot girls interested in him, but he didn’t even have to pursue them. They are very clearly the initiators, and they don’t seem to be bothered by the other’s presence.
