I’m sure there are non Christian people of Italian descent, but for the time of the supposed ghost’s death this is a pretty safe bet. Although the cognitive disconnect of being a professional criminal and follower of Christ has always struck me as something that would be difficult to surmount. Of course people often do things performatively, or hold opposing viewpoints, with no obvious difficulty, so I don’t know what about it surprises me now that I think about it.

Beel blah bloo, I guess I don’t have anything worth talking about tonight, so I’ll let you go about your business free of my nonsense. I hope Wednesday finds you well and expect to meet you back here on Friday, as usual. Until then, remember to check your locality.

Hey, historically, people have managed it pretty easily. The various christian monarchs of Europe had little problem waging war with each other between the fall of the Rome and the rise of the modern nation state. Cognitive dissonance is a pretty universal human trait…

True.
In my view- and many monarchs in history of: various religions, + various positions of non-religion, did as well.

Probably the tactic used by a lot of parents of, “do as I say, and not as I do”, was used a lot.

Wishing all people: Peace, love, + understanding.

Cheers. :D

For the mob, a lot was cultural Catholicism rather than personal understanding, but it also had to do with common misunderstandings of Catholic doctrine. Many of them viewed the mere act of confessing to the priest and doing a penance as absolving them of not only guilt for what they did, but any need to change their lifestyle.

It did result in some interesting effects in the “classic” era, like the church functioning as neutral ground and safe space at times between the families.

Well, the nuns taught us that confession with no intent to change your behavior doesn’t work, because God knows all.

Then again, they also taught us, by inference, that mass murder and masturbation are equivalent crimes. Because both are mortal sins, and you can only burn in hell for all eternity once . . . .

“…so I’ll let you go about your business free of my nonsense.”

That’s a great phrase, Jackie!
I like it.
