Another week is upon us. Already halfway through the month. Fuuuuuck. I wish I could make it seem like things aren’t going so fast. I feel like I’m just barely keeping up. This must be why so many politicians are on cocaine. They’re trying to keep up with the insane pace the world is on seemingly.

I’ve gotten into the habit of listening to youtube at 2X speed so I don’t have to take an hour to experience a video. People on youtube usually talk so fucking slow it seems like they are actively trying not to talk fast a lot of the time. I wonder if that’s contributing to my perception of time moving so fast.

I’ve been saving my pennies in hopes of getting a Switch 2 when they release the version that comes after this first one. I’ve realized that it’s better to let game companies test out their unfinished stuff on the impatient first and get the second, fixed, version of things. Since they didn’t launch with Animal Crossing or Splatoon 4 I didn’t feel the need to get in on the first run. They announced Splatoon Raiders though and I’m gonna have to play whatever that is. It looks like maybe an open world kind of thing. I didn’t watch the teaser very closely so I may be very wrong about that. I got distracted by the unexpected Splatoon 3 update. They put back in an old map from the first game so I was on a nostalgia high for a bit. Hopefully I can wait out the Switch 2 for a while and build up some savings. It seems like there’s no new mainline splatoon game on the horizon so I won’t have to deal with FOMO for a while at least.

Raiders of the Lost Splat?

My favorite example of whiplash is Genesis 6:3
The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God [angels] went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.
The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time
.
Its just… blah blah, era of angels, the flood.
Excuse me. What. Era of angels. There was a periods of hundreds of years where angel-human hybrids (Nephilim) roamed the earth and were dope ass heroes.
Its literally just two lines Genesis 6:1 and 6:4 and one line in Numbers 13:33. And that’s it for the coolest, raddest, most untapped narrative possible. Then God just kills everyone with The Flood which is definitively not rad.
This comment is twice as long as all content about angels banging humans and having rad hybrids with super powers who fight evil.

My own take is that these angels were fallen, and rebels against God. Maybe they produced heroes, but the seed of evil was there, and it kept getting stronger, until…..

Hmm, but the Nephilim didn’t fight evil, they WERE evil and they fought against god and his followers. They were “great” in the old sense of the word meaning “powerful,” not morally good–the very fact that angels pursued mortals out of lust made them born of sin, basically an abomination. They are also called “demons” in some translations.

What is interesting is that there is far more than what’s in the bible if you look at the various books, and even older traditions, that didn’t make it into the Bible. It wasn’t until well after the time of Jesus that a singular Bible was compiled from the many religious books and letters that were floating around the community, and it’s almost like the compilers intended to remove the story of the Nephilim entirely but forgot a few references, or felt they couldn’t remove them because they were embedded in other books they wanted. But the idea was a major influence on early thinkers and widely believed, before the story was mostly excised and forgotten. The Book of Giants and books of Enoch are some examples. It’s funny because it means Genesis really is like a cliff-notes version of all that history, or at least what the ancient Hebrews believed was their history.

The Nephilim are an interesting question in the Bible, and the theory I subscribe to is well described in this video by Religion For Breakfast [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uf4o5PY8kgU]. In it, he talks about various possibilities and notes that in the early days of Christianity the Abrahamic religions had many other faiths they were peer to.

They were thus part of the wider religious landscape of the region, and so their earlier documents were written with that in mind. He goes on to point out that lots of faiths had children with divine parents, like Heracles and Gilgamesh, and it’s possible that these were the Nephilim the Bible is referencing.
