I recognize that reference!

And yes, it never hurts to pander in retail. If merchandise moves, it moves.

It’s because he’s Japanese, isn’t it? (I too got the reference.)

Also, all businesses pander to an extent, even the ones you don’t think ‘sell’ themselves. Nothing like a little advertisement from the electric company to shill for their new electric farm to the eco group, or the clinic vending machine changing from Lay’s to Takis snacks because of the neighborhood they’re in.

I second the notion about pandering in retail.

It’s a fine line between pandering and just selling what people want. I think if you’re putting up big ads going “We like that thing you like!” that’s pandering, but just stocking stuff that sells is basic business. Calling all of it pandering makes it seem like it’s a negative to establish a good working relationship with your client base. No reason to stock tons of, I dunno, Zydeco music, if you’re based in Warsaw.

I spent an hour or so as an automatic door opener/ant remover for a friend’s niece. Watching kids usually makes me feel younger, but sometimes makes me feel very, very old. Still, it does bring back memories of my own larval stage.

Recently (and by that I mean ever since I had Covid in 2022), I usually need a nap the minute I wake up.

Yeah, I haven’t slept well for a while. About 51 years, really. I can still remember one glorious night- going to bed, going to sleep, sleeping through the night, and waking up to my alarm. That was over 20 years ago.
