The Wizard Who Wasn’t… Well Liked.
Of course everyone assumes that Reggie would end up in Slytherin, but to make that assumption is to fundamentally misunderstand what’s wrong with him. He’s not evil, just self absorbed, and he’s not stupid, he’s just too confident to consider alternate courses of action. He’s also a legacy student for the house. That’s not to say that the sorting hat didn’t suggest Slytherin to him but, as you’ll remember, it did the same thing to Harry. No matter how you look at it someone has to be the worst Ravenclaw. It just happens to be Reggie. While he rarely shares his talent with others he’s actually an accomplished musician, but he doesn’t see it as a worthwhile gift or a suitable profession for someone who is destined for greater things. Which is why he’s maintaining average marks in subjects he thinks will advance his social standing. His carelessness ofthen leads to things getting set alight. Which is how he earned the nickname Burning Boothe.

… Interesting. Would not peg Reggie as a musician, much less as one who wants a “greater” calling. I’d think that he’d be drawn to an industry that tends to glorify the most successful and marketable individuals.
Kind of reminds me of someone who was on a competitive cooking show, and said they wanted to prove to their family that cooking was a viable career option instead of music. Like… if only we all had to make such a tough decision.
Ha ha ha ha! :D “Someone has to be the worst Ravenclaw.” Hee hee hee. ^^
What does Reggie play, anyway? (Besides my heart.) <— stupidity abounds even in things I have time to think about before typing… silly stupidity…
“and he’s not stupid, he’s just too confident to consider alternate courses of action” Just feel like pointing out that arrogance isn’t confidence.
Confidence is what you have when you believe in yourself arrogance is what other people call it when they think you can’t live up to your confidence.
And Reggie’s confidence is key isn’t! I’m surprised at Ravenclaw too but because I pegged Reggie for Gryffindor myself if only because I still have hope for Reggie’s character arc and believe he’ll end up as the groups Nevel. But really he is not dumb as he comes off, he just doesn’t stop to think about what could go wrong.
I’ve met arrogant people that really were all they believed themselves to be, and made sure everyone knew. However, they were still arrogant pricks.
Confidence is believing in yourself, regardless of outward expression or even pride. Arrogance is basically boastful pride and self-importance.
That being said, as soon as you told me he wasn’t a Slytherin I thought of Ravenclaw. Nice idea.
I admit I would have unhesitatingly dropped Reggie into Slytherin. He’s not evil, but despite the Slytherin reputation as the Designated Villain Repository, that’s not really their defining trait. Their defining trait is ambition, and that’s got Reggie written all over it. He’s just… not very good at achieving his ambitions.
And he does – as in his first encounter with Ed – show the tendency to let his ambition override concern for other people that causes so many Slytherins to fall to the Dark Side.
As I recall from the early days of the comic, Ed needs the Harry Potter treatment as well!
At least it’s not Hufflepuff.
