568 Better Nature.

Okay, Intragalactic has been on the links page for a while now, but I haven’t taken the time to actually talk about it because I still haven’t been able to find the time to read it up to the current page.  I don’t like to point people at something I haven’t completely read, but who knows when I’ll have enough minutes in a row to finish.  Still, I feel safe recommending it to you guys though.  I’ve known OF the artist for years and now enjoy the distinct honor and pleasure experienced by being able to drop the OF.  (That is a very complex sentence.)

It’s funny and smart the way most sci-fi comedies WISH they were, in big, capital letters that infer a level of promise you just don’t get in the lower case.  Also, sometimes there’s nakey! They don’t make an emoticon smiley enough to convey how pleasing this is to me.  This one will have to try, fail, and eventually kill itself because of its woeful inadequacy. (:])

I have a feeling that when I do get to the end of the archives I’m going to wish there was more to read.  Every time I have to stop I give serious consideration to ignoring my obligations but, as we know, that way lies madness.  Madness in the form of cranky people who’ve grown accustomed to reading my nonsense 3 times a week.

In all seriousness, Intragalactic is the kind of thing I WISH I understood how to make.   It’s what I strive for.  When I read it I’m not only entertained but, as an artist, I feel like I’ve learned for having seen it.  I can give no higher compliment.

@ whiterabit – No it’s just a low angle. Nina really should be looking across at him, but it looked odd both ways so I just went with it.

I think we need some more character development on that Justin Timberlake CD. That was my favorite character, and I haven’t seen it in quite a long time.

Try the emoticon (vwg) or Very Wicked Grin. (wg) also exists.
About Nina, if she’s really shy she’d have trouble maintaining eye contact for long periods of time. I know I do.

The secret to Intragalactic is a big fat pile of reference soup, everything in it is a takeoff on something in pop-sci fi somewhere, most particularly on Star Trek. It’s not some bafflingly deep project plumbing the nature of observation or whatever, it’s just a fiction with the distinct feature that everything in it is a spoof of or joke on something, including the plots. Some people would call that a cheap trick, I’d tend to think most people who’d say so are jealous.
She has learned a fair bit over the years about making comics; she halfway painted herself into a corner sometimes in Muertitos and it’s interesting to watch the progression of mistakes made, recovered from and learnt from in her body of work. However, you seem to suffer from a low-free-time problem already cutting into your gaming habit so I’m not gonna push you into reading that stuff.

It’s even more confusing when, not being familiar with Intragalactic, one initially misinterprets ‘OF’ as an acronym-name, like KP or DJ or Arby.

Also Asian-style emoticons are good for this sort of thing because you can easily extend ^_^ into, e.g., ^_________________________^ or somesuch. Except that’s more like ‘cat that ate the canary’, I think.

Wow, you read Intragalatic? I noticed it had Between Failures on the links page… so, super congrats!

No offense to either, but I’ve felt ambivalent about that artists work for years (I remember when Muertitos got is own site!) – still, it was enough to hold my attention and curiosity for awhile.

I guess they have evolved a lot, though – what a glowing recommendation! I’ll be sure to give the archives a sweet, hot reading.
