Alright, I swung a little wide on that first panel, but sometimes I come in a little loose on these things and it takes a while to dial it in to the house style. Sometimes you gotta accept the flaws and move ahead. What else?

The first pass at this was much shorter and went directly in to Evrina sitting down the wine, but trying to squeeze all the text and stuff into the panels messed up how I wanted to do a jump cut later, so I stretched Evrina’s part out a bit so it would land on the Ramon not being Jesus line. She has a pretty visually dominating presence, so she can carry the page easily enough. Plus boobs, not that I need an excuse to fill as much of a page as I can with cleavage. My intention has been to modify her outfit to something more conservative later, but I kinda want to torture Brooksie with it. This is the kind of difficult choice content creators have to face sometimes. I know it will amuse me endlessly to see Jo thirst over Evrina’s hoisted up hoots. Plus it will annoy/entice Jess, which also amuses me. I’m sure I can land on some kind of middle ground attempt that is between the ridiculous outfit and the version where they finally get it right. I dunno, it’s just an idea. It’s a peek into the creative process for you dedicated readers who venture down into my wordhole to root around.

Several big name Youtubers are quitting their channels. MattPat is the one I actually have some knowledge of. He started when I was 3 years or so into the comic, so I watched a lot of his early content before it got that polished style that I didn’t like as much. I’m sad to see him go, even though I rarely watched the channel these days. That said I’m glad he’s in a good place and appreciate the content he shared back then. I’m also familiar with the other forces right now that are making it easier to walk away from successful youtube channels. Ad rates have been in the toilet for a long time, the economy is circling the bowl. Censorship is rampant. I can see why it seems like a fine time to leave me Lucile. A lot of those kinds of services are struggling to make a profit and the effects of that are oozing down the chain and dripping on to everyone along the way. The landscape is changing. Who knows where this will go now that the US election cycle is poised to take an extended dump all over the world stage for a year. It’s gonna be so exhausting. Guh.

ANYWAY, I hope you have a fine weekend and meet me back here safe on Monday. As always the support links are above. Have a good one till next we meet. Slapity dapity dooooo.

You’re tormenting Jo, with- Evrina in a very revealing, waitress outfit?
Well…why not? Please have your fun! :)

I think Charles Schultz once said, about C.B. from Peanuts: “Sometimes, I “feel bad” for all the bad stuff that I do to Charlie Brown…Heh, heh, heh, heh!”

:D

I find it a bit weird for big YouTubers to quit for practical reasons. I get scaling back. Pewdiepie scaled back. But to quit entirely…didn’t they all start channels to share their passion? Don’t they have a fanbase they enjoy engaging with? Unless they started their channel with the explicit intention of being a profitable content factory, it’s just odd to me that they are like “Yeah, screw you guys, I’m leaving forever. Bye.” Now, if they quit because of outright burnout, or they just no longer enjoy whatever it was they made their channel for, or they got a “real job” they want to pursue with all their time and energy, I understand that.

How about, idk, family? YouTube is an insane “hobby” to have, and it’s a time consuming career. Multiple YouTubers has quit YouTube due to multiple different reasons. They feel less passionate and want to pursue new things. They have families and are taking a step back/quitting as the host of the channel. Or they stop due to hate. Or they stop due to just wanting to fucking stop.

You don’t have a fucking right to demand or ponder their time. It’s a job like any other. Sitting here and saying “I don’t get it” is so entitled.

Eyo chill, there is absolutely nothing entitled about pondering why someone does things, contrary to your statement people have a “fucking right” to ponder things. BWM also wasn’t demanding anything.

If anything, it’s a bit entitled to expect random people to conform to your ideas of what is and isn’t allowed to be pondered.

As far as family goes, if yt is done as a job, it’s still a little bit strange since, especially when starting a family, people usually need dosh, and one CAN wonder how people who’re quitting their jobs can afford to do so.

MatPat is one of those guys who started making his career behind the scenes more about helping other channels grow and putting together things to do with his fans. In his case, he’s still on staff and putting ideas together, but being the actual face of the channel is no longer in the cards if he wants to watch his son grow up and his parents get old.

Exact words elude me, but if I recall he realizes that he’s become, well, huge. There are lots of people out there who recognize “it’s just a theory”. He believes that, for him, it’s the right time to step away and give the reigns on to someone else. For him, it’s where he wants to be; he’s satisfied. For his career, he’s still able to support his family and have his business; he won’t be in the public on the reg, but he’s still working (hopefully with a slightly less grueling schedule that it takes to really be a creator). For his dream– he achieved it. Now his dream is to let other’s fly.

I am not MatPat, and my memory is not flawless, but I hope putting the gist of what knowledge I imbibed from his farewell videos answers your question.

I was, admittedly, posing the question more as a counterpoint to the above argument than as an actual inquiry about a specific person, but still, thank you for the reply.
I do wonder how switching “the face”, so to speaks, will work out for his channels, considering Youtube often seems a very personality-driven endeavour. The only example I can recall (Inside Gaming, and later Funhaus) doesn’t seem to have worked all that well, although they’re still chugging along in some form.
Time will tell, I suppose!

All I said was that I found it “a bit weird.” Not sure what’s “entitled” about that, or even how it’s an “argument.” I also listed several examples of things I DO understand that you basically repeated back at me. I apologize that my wondering about strangers neither of us know upset you.

If MattPat (whom I know nothing about) is just changing roles, that makes more sense to me.

Why can’t they sell the wine?
As far as I know, Ed and Nina aren’t under 21 (which is the only reason that comes to mind), are they?

It requires a permit.

This little end run is pretty legally risky. I can understand them not wanting to deal with the expense and hassle of getting a license if alcohol sales aren’t a big part of their business, but then they should probably keep the place strictly dry. All it takes is one busybody to get the ABC sniffing around.

This is essentially exactly how people have gotten around the law for more than a century.
There is a YouTube video explaining how in the late 1800s hotels got around various odious regulations against selling alcohol simply by including it in the price of your “meal” while staying at the hotel.

I remember one of the old-school wineries in the Napa Valley including as part of the patter the strategy that got them through Prohibition – selling grape mash, with very explicit instructions on how you should NOT allow this mash to ferment or bottle cure lest it produce an illegal alcoholic beverage.

The local liquor laws have eased up in the last couple of years but for decades one of the more upscale restaurants in town offered personal liquor lockers for its regular patrons. They couldn’t sell you a bottle of wine but they would store it on the premises for you. The ornate cabinets with individual compartments were actually part of the décor.

this has been a fun arc lol. Evrina can really rock that outfit. no complaints here. and seeing jo get flustered is always fun so i look forward to that.

(like a fine time to leave me Lucile.)

Man, I just got this song out of my head too.

I actually really like that first panel? I can’t say why–my knowledge of art is too poor–but I dunno, the perspective (?) is fun!

I have almost no idea what the comic said; I was distracted.

Nice reference in your blog tho. Very choice. Very old time feel.

So it’s “BYOB”… except that the angry girl supplies the “B” if she happens to have a crush on one of the guests, even if she’s on a date with someone else.

(Again, pretty creepy that Ramón is so blatantly eyeing not just a woman whose checks he signs, but he must have realized by now, a lesbian whose checks he signs.)

This is such a current year comment. It’s been established a bunch of times that Evrina has a weird relationship with Ramon, and SHE is the one who keeps helping him. It even gets brought up as a reason she broke up with Jess. Someone thought they had hot take to serve up. I’m sending it back.

I thought she was bi

I’m not sure if Evrina has told us, specifically what her orientation is, but I think she’s said she’s not in the [100% straight group].

I think she says she likes women, but- I think she also hinted that Ramon’s: big handsome-guy look, + his big, strong looking arms, can sometimes be distracting.
Who knows? It’s fun to watch her talk about romance, + similar stuff. :D

I don’t see any “eyeing” really, much less “blatantly.” Unless you simply mean he finds her generally attractive which is…I don’t really know why it’s bad to find attractive women attractive whom you aren’t dating. That’s usually why you start dating someone.

Not quitting, but scaling back and taking a break, I highly recommend Tom Scott, who has run a dozen or so channels, trying out different formats. ‘Things You Might Not Know’ being one of the more recognized.

You want a REAL wild card, it turns out something like 50 different countries have an election this year. You thought THIS election cycle was going to be wild, throw in the other 49 and stand back.

On the YouTube thing; I don’t do it as a career, hell I don’t even get paid! I’ve always told people I’m doing it for me, and inviting them to share the experience.
It’s really frustrating that I have to make sure there’s no music playing in the background, or they’ll mute the entire episode.
Maybe one day, I’ll get a paycheck….

after reading the blog, I realize that was a hint at the Jesus turning water into wine fable, but without making that connection on my own I absolutely inferred that she was implying that it wasn’t just any wine, but moonshine made by Ramon

You needn’t worry about the fist panel. You’d be surprised…or maybe you wouldn’t…how much we’ll overlook in the name of boobs.

“This is the kind of difficult choice content creators have to face sometimes.” Ah, the wine is very very dry indeed.

I spend my summers at an old hotel which for reasons unknown to me have not been able to get a liquor license. There is one room just off the deck that has some old grandfathered liquor permit. That is the room where I stay. So long as you do not move away from the table just outside the door of my room you can drink and anyone else sitting at that table can drink. We sit at this table, play music together and drink. It is a popular table. I have many friends….
Cheers to all. ~ulrich

I’m not sure this was intentional. Evrina’s eyes are directed panel-right in every panel. It kinda gives the feeling that she ignored Ed during the entire monologue. That’s just me though and I only noticed that on my second read.
