723 Awash In Bastards.

The discussion about Wes & Reggie, and all they imply, was very interesting. I’m surprised that they sparked so much discourse. Perhaps it was the perceived threat to Jo that caused it. I don’t know, but it was neat to see things being mulled over by all of you.

I had the most traumatic dream last night. I was Obi Wan Kenobi and got injured badly by an assassin. Whoever was trying to kill me was very persistent, but the hospital kept taking away my lightsaber, so every time a new assassin came to get me I had to kill them in the most brutal ways possible. Styluses in eye sockets, broken glass knifings, blunt force trauma… you name it and I had to kill someone that way. The hospital really had no security to speak of and there were no other Jedi around to help. Also, the whole time I was feeling pain from my earlier wounds and it made everything harder to do. That was the worst part because generally in dream even if something happens to hurt me my brain understands that it’s a dream. I react as if I’m hurt, but don’t actually feel it. In this dream I was feeling the sensations of pain. It was pretty brutal. I woke up shaking and it took a long time for me to brush the whole thing off. It’s been hours and hours, but I can still see some of the stuff vividly. Why my own brain would subject me to such a thing is beyond me.

As a writer, I have to commend you for using Jo as Welsey’s target as we, your audience, for the most part all love Jo/see her as our favorite character so making the current main conflict include putting her at risk draws us in. However, as a big fan of your comic, and Jo, I hate seeing her at risk. Well played sir.

Oh, and extra points for getting all moral and deep in a conversation between douche 1 and douche 2 :P

Am I the lone member of the Anti-Brooksie Squad? … Pro-Reggie (when he isn’t wussing out) and possibly Pro-Wes (depending on how he plays out going forwards).

Let us keep in mind, past-me … that the main reason we hold those opinions is because they’re contrary to the majority.

Upon later consideration with another few years under our belt… I’d say we sympathised with Wes because he came in with sunglasses, and was instantly hated for it, which we felt represented our own mistreatment for the same. He is a bit of a douchenozzle though.

Reggie we liked because we respect a good bit of trolling. We respect antagonism. There is nothing so fun as a good villain, and he was good… UNTIL he started showing incompetence and delusion in combination with the antagonism… which just seemed out of character from our perspective (though everyone else considered it perfectly obvious)… THEN seeing him behave in an honourable manner, that surprised everyone else, but we were informed of this beforehand and it seemed downright obvious. As for now… Reggie is witty at the insults, but he seems unskilled and unaware of it… so… 50/50.

Jolyne Brooks though. She has gone from the timid wallflower about-face to an overly energetic, melodramatic genki-nightmare… also a smoker… and the fanbase loves her. Whereas she remains the sort of person who, despite the shared weirdness and liking of quotes… I would probably avoid like the plague between her noisemaking and smoky stink.

… So that is that.

Let us not merely be pulled into the pit of being arbitrarily contrary to the meatbag populace… a’ight past-me?

Whoa dude. That dream of yours sounds insane. Might mean your a masochist. On the other hand, maybe you’re looking at it the wrong way.

Its not that you were injured and forced to fight for your life. You were OBI WAN FRIGGIN KENOBI, killing trained assassins despite impossible odds! It might mean your goal in life is to kick ass. (shrug)

One: I applaud you for using the term ‘bastard’ as its proper use and not just an insult (although it may be that, too).

Two: Wow… In panel 3, I half-expected them to confess their gay lust for each other and start making out in the back room.

… Right. That was too much sharing. Time for some brain bleaching and heterosexual overcompensation!

Why do I keep thinking that Wesley’s trying to play rock paper scissors with a higher being in panel one? Why is his hand so small? Why do Wes and Reggie look totally into each other in panel 3? All these and more explained to be signs of your true thoughts (according to Freud) possibly at another time!

I think that your brain is attempting to train you in how to use the Force while you’re asleep. Maybe, just MAYBE, you are the first of the new Jedi order.

Or, you know, you could just need to watch all the star wars movies again RIGHT FREAKING NOW. what are you waiting for? GO GO GO!

Wow, I didn’t even notice about panel three until I read the comments, but now that you mention it…. xD

Also, when I feel pain in my dreams, it’s usually from a real source, like falling asleep the wrong way, or on top of my arm or something. Then the pain kinda gets distorted by dream logic and stuff.

Once I dreamt I was bit by some kind of poisonous spider-bat, and my arm kept getting worse until for some reason I gained super strength and the arm went all Prince Ashitaka demon curse on me before I woke up and realized my arm hurt because it somehow migrated behind my back a while earlier.

I found this webcomic a little while ago and now I love it so much that any new comic brightens up my day. You are very good at this and I just wanted to encourage you to keep this going.

I dont think I’ve liked reggie any more then I do right now I;m sure that Thomas, Carol and Nina would be soo very proud of little reggie right now, Reggie you maybe be a corprate brown noser but i have to say you are a stand up guy way to keep wes away from Brooksie she deserves way better then that ass clown

I have a feeling….that Reggie is going to be the follower in this relationship….

As for your dream…

I found this website on stumbleupon a while ago: don’t know why i added it to my favorites… i don’t generally have dreams that i remember…but it has a long list of things to explain what things in your dreams represent…for example, under dream dictionary, and in the category Characters:

Actor/Actress

To see an actor or actress in your dream, represents your pursuit for pleasure. Your admiration of a particular celebrity may lead to a desire to have some of their physical or personality traits. Consider also who this actor/actress is and what characteristics you associate with him or her. These may be the same characteristics that you need to acknowledge or incorporate into yourself. The dream may also be a pun on his or her name.

To dream that you are an actor, denotes that your hard work and labor will be well worth it in the end. It also indicates your strong desires to be recognized and acknowledged. Perhaps you are putting too much emphasis on your outward appearances. Alternatively, the dream may be analogous to the role that you are playing in your real life, whether it be the role of a parent, sibling, co-worker, etc. Or perhaps you are putting on an act or a facade.

To see a particular actor or actress in your dream, look at the role they are playing. Even though you may not know them on a personal level, how you perceive them or the characters they play can provide understanding in how it relates to you. See also Celebrities. TOP

As much as I would love to take down either Wes or Reggie, I know that Jo is like, epic-ninja-scary. So I don’t fear for Jo, I fear for the world.

Just saw your ad over at Ginger’s Bread (I needed to satiate my archive hungers), and I must say thy I am VERY glad to know that your comic is not, in fact made from puppies. Or kittens. It’s comforting to have somebody take such a strong stance on this issue.

So… in your dream.. did you have to use surgical wiring to make an improvised garrotte wire with which you caused an assassin’s gurgling and horribly graphic demise?

Cause garrotte wire is always fu-…. er… horrible… its a terrible thing to have to use on another human being…

<_<;;

Even though Reggie is a durp, he still has a lot of valuable insight into this particular issue. Not such a bad guy after all, and you can tell he’s looking out for Brooksie. For the record, I really hate guys like Wes who look at nice girls as “conquests” or “easy.” I only hope everything goes well for Brooksie. We all know she’s no pushover. :)

We all know Reggie loves his Nina…
I hope Wes gets a pitchfork enema. Seems harsh, but… well… I have nothing to add to that.

Reggie’s line in panel 2 is the largest nugget of wisdom I’ve ever seen come from a deluded idiot.
