Is your topic of conversation getting a little dark? Always remember that a grin and jazz hands can change the course of any situation. Also, as soon as Thomas starts the hand motion he begins to hear Entry Of The Gladiators in his head. That’s not important but it’s just a weird thing that I know since I made this.

One of the only things I don’t like about the death of circuses is that the cultural touchstone that is Entry Of The Gladiators has been lost on some level. Whenever someone does something stupid I have a habit of singing the first few bars of the tune for a while, just to highlight the event. This may seem like a strange hill to choose to die on, but it’s important to me that when people do dumb shit I have an easy way to point it out that isn’t just saying “That’s dumb.” I want some fanfare to go with it.

I’m sure the Teen hates the tune on some level since I use it to highlight her questionable choices so often. When I’m gone I want her to hear me singing it in her mind when she does dumb shit. That will be my greatest legacy.

I’m just curious:
“this may seem like a strange hill to choose to die on”, is not a phrase I’ve heard before.
Is that phrase sort of like, [ that may be an odd goal for me to shoot for], or something like that?

It’s not usually used the way I did. Generally you would say to someone making a stand for something that seems foolish to you “That seems dumb to me, but if that’s the hill you want to die on, so be it.”

In old battles sometimes people would just pick a spot where they had to stop the oncoming force and defend it to the last man. Even if it was a bad choice. That’s where choosing the hill you want to die on comes from. Defending something that may not reallt be as worthy of defense as you’ve given it credit for.

It’s worth noting that choosing a hill to die on doesn’t necessarily have to mean that the “hill” isn’t worth it (though often implies the speaker may feel it is). It just means it’s one thing you’re not willing to give up even though it’s likely to cost you everything.

What came to my mind was the Alamo, where the men who stayed to defend it largely knew they were going to die, but felt that delaying Santa Anna’s army so the Texan army could prepare for it was worth their lives. They died but they achieved that goal in the process, buying time for the Texan army to be prepared for Santa Anna. And their deaths also served as a rallying cry that inspired their army to fight.

Lt. Col. William B. Travis actually chose the Alamo knowing that General Antonio López de Santa Anna would stop to destroy Travis for having defeated Santa Anna’s brother-in-law, General Martín Perfecto de Cos, a matter of dishonour to Santa Anna; the delaying action of the siege of the Alamo afforded Texas the opportunity to declare it’s independence as the Republic of Texas, a sovereign country in North America that existed from March 2, 1836, to February 19, 1846, when it was annexed to the U.S.A.

Hey Jackie, any chance you will be reviewing Cuphead in the near future? The entire Internet and gaming community is ga ga over this game.

I don’t have any systems it’s on I think. It’s xbox one, right? Or pc? Either way, my pc can’t handle gaming for shit. It looks really good though. Going on style alone they nailed it. It looks exactly the way it should for the theme they chose.

After all is said and done you’ll wind up a skeleton.

Cheer up David, you know what they say
Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse
When you’re chewing on life’s gristle
Don’t grumble, give a whistle
And this’ll help things turn out for the best

If Carol overheard her saying that, and noticed whom it was said to, she may be somewhat annoyed.

Also forgot to mention: on the subject of philosophical/inspirational quotations, inspirobot.me can be a comedic goldmine of such.

Jackie: When I’m gone I want her to hear me singing it in her mind when she does dumb shit. That will be my greatest legacy.

Gene: personally, for me your greatest legacy will be your webcomic. And I would hope that The Teen would you remember your being there for her, after you’re gone.
And when I die, and when I’m dead, dead and gone, there’ll be one child born, in this world, to carry on, …To carry on. Bum-Bum Bum-Bum Ba-da-Bump.

The whole “accidental discharge” nonsense when cleaning a gun is something I don’t get.

I spent five years in the United States Marine Corps, and have spent nearly my whole life around firearms. I only hear about accidental discharges from other people. Only one time did I hear about one first-hand.

It seems pretty cut-and-dry to me. Don’t bring bullets when cleaning your gun. On top of that, there are the four safety rules for firearm management. Even so, if you take the first one seriously, the others are redundant.

“Treat every firearm as if it were loaded.”

Heh, have you seen the way people drive? One hand and more than half their already insufficient attention on a phone … I don’t imagine that type of person is any smarter with guns …

People get overconfident with experience and stop following safety procedures.

Same for drivers, who start to make up their own traffic rules with time because “Oh I have been driving for decades, I know what I’m doing”.

Entry of the Gladiators? I never knew that was the name of the song. But what’s weird is that it has become so associated with circuses that I can see it as the entry song for something as violent as gladiatorial games. Go figure

Not only did I forget Stewart and the rest after a few years (cant remember exactly when I started reading, could’ve been much later than 2015), I forgot this entire scene where Thomas and Rulette have their official meeting-again-after-a-decade. Now her statements about his old negative traits hit differently.
