Teen Corner

hello web-comic world the not so teen is back and not just in the comic blog, but living with my aunt again and of course Jackie again. I’m only half way moved back. everything is an absolute mess in my room as per usual.tonight I got half my clothes hung up and into the closet, so progress. I moved back in due to me and my fiancé taking a break so I’ve also been an emotional wreck, Jackie is a witness to that. after a short period of time apart though we are attempting to work things out but continue living apart so we will see how that goes. college is interesting, i’m enjoying it for the most part. I’ve gotten to cut and dye hair so far and practice plenty on my creepy manikins. one thing I cannot seem to grasp though is how a lot of college kids are out partying all the time. between classes, homework and work I have just about zero time to do anything let alone go party all night. I’m required to wear black pants and black shirts for my cosmetology classes so my wardrobe is slowly becoming nothing but black. I am also supposed to have my hair and makeup done everyday so that I look like a professional. really I just look like I’m ready for a funeral in my opinion but whatever the teacher says goes right? I do actually like my instructor shes nice and goofy just uptight some days but I don’t blame her. my job isn’t very interesting currently other than a random trucker guy buying me a Minnie gallon of chocolate milk and fifty dollars going missing out of my wallet. another co worker of mine is now missing fifty dollars form her wallet too after working with the same person that I did so my boss is currently looking through camera footage to see if there is any proof of someone stealing. so I guess its a little interesting, I just hope we figure out who it is and get rid of them. oh and I have now lost about seventy some pounds since last august, go me! other than that life is pretty boring I basically just live in a constant state of hungry and tired.

It’s always interesting checking in on old gamegroups. There’s a few I still miss, and others… well, they’re ”interesting.”

It amazes me how even the most eccentric and antisocial of societal rejects can get along with each other. I know I don’t have the most perfect set of social skills, but I can ape my way through society like a half-competent psychopath, unlike some of the people which I’ve met.

Wait, something ain’t right here… the streak of hair between her eyes magically disappeared on second panel and then appeared again

Sounds a lot like my local comic book store, sans the gaming. We probably pay more for back issues and stuff we can get on amazon or ebay… but its supporting local business and us regulars find ourselves hanging out when we stop in.

Dear Teen –

My wife is a stylist, and we were married when she went to school. I totally understand the creepy manikin thing, and I wish you the best of luck.

Cutting and dying hair is so crazy sometimes.

That last panel was great. I hope that means we will get to hear about some of these “socially horrifying” people, because you have piqued my interest.

Lots of people partying all the time? You having no time for that while studying? My guess is that you’ll graduate, and they’ll not,

Years ago when I was in engineering it was the constant observation of the engineering students that they would come home and start on their home work, then wave good-bye to their roommates headed out to the bars or to party, then welcome them home again many hours later (having been doing homework the whole time). The life of an engineering student is to take about 15 credits and then spend 60 to 75 hours a week on the homework outside of class. Suffice it to say almost none of them had time for a job on top of that, but there were a few masochists who did. I should point out that these were not kids who took so long on homework because they were dumb; they had the highest average entering SAT scores at the University – and some of the lowest exiting GPA’s (because the coursework was so hard). The lesson to be learned is that doing well requires making sacrifices of time and effort, but it is worth it. A few people may skate by just on talent, but the ones who excel are the ones who simply put in the work. I like a few quotes on the subject:

“Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration” – attributed to Albert Einstein.
“Successful people do what unsuccessful people are not willing to do.” ? Jeff Olson, The Slight Edge: Secret to a Successful Life
“When you’re around enormously successful people you realize their success isn’t an accident – it’s about work. Ryan Tedder (He wrote “Bleeding Love”, performed by Leona Lewis, and “Halo”, performed by Beyoncé.)

You see other people out partying while you are busting your hump – wish them well, hope for their success, but then put your head down and keep working with the expectation that all that work will bring you rewards.

It could be me, but you’re awfully young to have a fiance. Not saying it’s wrong, just that you’re young.

On another note: as long as the mannequins aren’t talking back to you, you’ll be good. keep at it and you’ll get through
