1120 Cock Liking.

My cousin wants to see kick-Ass 2. None of us had seen the first one, so we watched it tonight. It was cool, but I now know that nobody who told me about it gave a very clear description of what the movie was like. I’m not sure what it is about the movie that causes this disconnect between actual story and explaining it to someone. The part that seems to elude people most often is that Kick-Ass is a really shitty costumed vigilante. That’s one of the most key parts of the character, but no one ever said “He tries to be a superhero, but sucks at it.” The thing that strikes me as the most weird thing about his arc is that for a comic nerd he knows so very little about them. At the very least he doesn’t read Batman. If he actually read Batman he should have been way better at crime fighting. Even if he just had sense enough to train BEFORE he tries to do stuff. Although I guess it’s all kind of supposed to be a joke… When the other vigilantes start showing up Kick-Ass seems to sense that everyone is better than him and gets a little annoyed at least. Anyway, it was fine. Hopefully he gets his shit together in part two.

I’ve been playing State Of Decay (and Animal Crossing still, but everyone else is kind of walking away so it’s been harder to connect with people.) I can’t remember if I mentioned how I found out about it but, just in case, it was my friend Jeff’s Youtube channel. It’s an Xbox Live Arcade game, but I think it’s on other things too. PC maybe? Anyway, Jeff does a great job of selling the game. At least to me. YMMV. The thing about State is that it’s got more to it than pretty much every zombie thing I’ve ever played. It’s a sandbox game, so you kind of play it however suits you. A lot of the random missions are on a timer though, so you do have to rush a little from time to time just to keep up. Story missions will wait for you as long as you like, as far as I can tell. I’ve heard that some of them are on a timer too, but I haven’t seen any evidence of that. Some things that happen appear to be set in stone. Although doing things in different order seems to confuse the story sometimes. Also the game is pretty glitchy. I haven’t had any that broke play, but there have been A LOT.

Zombies spawn halfway into walls a lot. They also warp space from time to time; walking through walls, cars, or what have you. They seem to walk out of the side of mountains a lot too. In fact, sometimes if you walk past a sheer cliff face it will sound like a bunch of zombies is standing inside it and they can hear you. They just can’t always get to you. I once fell into a hoard of them from a water tower and suddenly became invincible. I was on a mission, but it made it impossible for me to interact with anything, and couldn’t get the game to autosave. So, I guess that was actually one gamekiller. Anyway, when I reloaded I was fine at my last autosave.

Glitches aside the game is still the best zombie game I’ve played since Resident Evil 2. There are stealth functions, RPG elements, asset management… and the list goes on. If you carry too much you become encumbered, which is annoying, but it a cool realistic element in the context of the game. You can build bases in various locations, which is way more fun than when Pokémon tried it… XD Item generation is apparently somewhat random. In my second try, for example, I had tons of ammo. Shitloads of it, but none of my guns could use it. I seriously had stacks of badass guns with nothing to shoot from them. Irritating on the one hand, but really amusing on the other. When shit goes down you don’t get to choose what you scavenge for.

In any event Jeff’s videos give you a pretty clear idea of what the game is about. (Although he hasn’t played as much in video time as you can, so you’ll surpass his knowledge base pretty fast if you choose to buy the game. It’s only $20.) Time warp Jeff is not nearly as badass at the game as I am, and I’m sure I’m not all that great compared to people who can actually shoot. That said, my base is about as impenetrable and well stocked as you can be. So I got that going for me.

If you decide to play, go looking for Snyder Trucking in Marshal, once you can establish new bases. Best base I’ve used so far. I chose it because one of my friends is named Snyder and it worked out famously. XD

Oh, I almost forgot. Please keep clicking Jo and voting. Soon we will have run rampant all over that voting site. XD

Well, he does train during the comic series. But they have to cut shit down to get to regular movie length. Also, he doesn’t get the girl, Red Mist is one of the people that tortures him and Big Daddy. Big Daddy was never a cop. He lied to his daughter. Basically, a lot more goes wrong and its far more brutal.

But I still liked the film. Have to find time to see the second one as well.

“My brother has a crush on her? TIME TO BE A BACK STABBING SIBLING BITCH!”

I knew there was a reason I didn’t like her.

Well, she did already change his perception of Brooksie forever, and I was rooting for that one more than the giantess and shortstack pairing going on otherwise, cuz she’s flippin adorable… So is it really a surprise she wants to do the same for the OTHER possible love interest?

There’s a difference between changing perception of a friend, and putting the moves on what you know is your siblings crush just because you’re a horny co-ed with no direction.

Sorry, didn’t make myself clear. She was totally putting the moves on Brooksie as well, the only difference is the amount of pining Ed is doing over one or the other. Hope I spelled pining right….

Yeah, if she ends up trying stuff with Nina I’d be pretty pissed at her too. Something about the idea of it just does not sit right with me for some reason.

If only we had a vagina whisperer, then we will know which way her flaps dangle.

I’m more curious as to Jess’ intentions here…

We know little of her other than her being a college student, and with her taking such a liking to Brooksie, I’m starting to get the sensation Jess just want a slice of her brother’s proverbial pie (if you’ll pardon the expression)…

I thought that Ed was more interested in Nina than Brook… it has been a while since I’ve archive binged BF so I forget certain details.

From what I gather, and mind you this all comes from random obsessing over the archives of this comic, Ed’s interest in Nina is rather superficial when you consider how they first met. Ed and Brook, on the other hand, connect on a bit of a deeper level. That’s not to say he’d choose one over the other, but rather he enjoys the company of both for different reasons.

Further on, it seems Jess is taking notice of this, and with my understanding (or there lack of) she has a knack for having interest with her brother’s things.

And while I would NEVER make such a proper comparison to Jo and Nina with an iPod or a DS, I still question just why it is she’s taken such an interest in Ed’s new friends…

I always saw Brook hooking with John. And I don’t know about Ed’s liking of Nina superficial… I mean, looks attracted him first, sure, but if it’d been all about looks, he wouldn’t enjoy talking to her as much. I think Ed’s the kind of guy to find looks the catch, but personality the keep.

Siblings do that. I’ve dated my sister’s exes, love interests, enemies, and laughed that she got upset about it. She does the same. She steals my stuff, I steal hers. If Ed was taller, Jess confessed she’d totes steal his clothes, and I imagine she’d laugh at the fact he couldn’t do the same without looking gay

(* swoons *)

Oh, P.M., you do so have a way with words (* chortle! *)

I’m not sure if that was sarcasm or not, I ran my fingers through my hair and puffed up with pride anyway. :D

Heh.
Well, you definitely speak your mind, and that’s always (well, almost always — we both know of some exceptions) admirable. Your colorful choice of metaphor was particularly amusing.

I would think Jessica is just trying to find ways to brow-beat her twin brother. Otherwise, this is going to a place I’ve only seen in a Harry Potter hentai once before.

You would think as cynical as Thomas is, he would have gathered by now that Jess is out for Jess; period, full stop. I suppose “screwing around with people if it’s entertaining enough” falls in there somewhere as well.

As for Kickass, that was always kind of the running gag of the film; he’s incompetant and kind of an idiot. I gather the comics are even harder on him, but from the reviews I’ve seen of the second film, he does get his proverbial act together somewhat

Jess just seems to become hotter by the episode. And oh, so Chaotic Neutral!

So what you’re saying is, Kick Ass was better than, say, the 2007 flick Hot Rod. Which, now that I look at that statement, doesn’t say much. From your review, I think this might be one more film I’ll put on my Watch it When it Comes Up Free on Cable list. IFC seems to understand and accommodate my tastes in that regard…

I know it’s not my story but I dare speculate that Jess might be more of a smart evil overlord than we think. As the first person that asked for her book to sign she knows she has some level of attention from Constance and Thomas paid her to drag people. She did mention she felt overpaid and mocked the fact he was fighting with Constance calling it a dorktastrophe if a battle emerge making it look she felt above such childish play. Acting flirty with Thomas might just be a way of getting more work, proving she finds such things childish or at least get some of Thomas attention. Cos while doing this she knows that Constance only gets to see a girl she considers smart (she considers people who read her book smart) flirting with a guy she let go. So that’s my take on the idea I know that if it is or if it is not I will be surprised because I don’t know what all that fighting is paving the way for but so far this comic is so awesome I am happy whatever its take. BTW English not my first language I practically learned it from American programs I received from directional antenna 20 years ago so excuse my spelling/grammar/whatever else I miss..

Seriously? You’re apologizing for your English?

Please believe me when I say that your usage, grammar and spelling is better than many other commenters in the webcomic world, including those for whom English is their only language.

Thanks,
I did have some English lessons in collage but my teachers were always so adamant that TV ruined my foreign language skills that I am not so comfortable talking. It’s nice to receive some positive feedback even if it’s after proofreading every single sentence several times.

The Perfesser is right that your written English is better than a lot of other “commenters”. When I re-read what you wrote, I was able to pick up on a few glitches but your intent was so clear that I would not have noticed had you not commented on it. As far as your college teachers are concerned, whether TV ruins or enhances your language skills depends a great deal on what you watch.

I’m not sure that Constance is even aware that Jess is talking with Thomas. I rather assumed that the entire conversation between them, not to mention Thomas paying her off, occurred where Ms. Constance could not see.

My take on Jess is that she is very able, but totally without direction. I think her interest in Nina is just another case of “hey – I haven’t tried that yet, maybe I’ll see if it’s fun and play with it until I get bored and go looking for another toy.”

Voting every time a new comic is posted. With such a cute picture of Brooksie as incentive, I can’t stop myself.

Love your work, mate.

Eeeeesh. A lot of people are talking about Jess, but I’m honestly more bothered by Thomas in this strip. He’s been kind of iffy against Constance (with reason, I suppose) but… it really just hits me HARD how he just kind of… “oh yeah, I’m editing some of Nina’s stuff, and LESBIAN.”

I’m sure he’s not really thinking that through, but it seems like massive divulging of private matters. That may be just my Creative Writing education talking though… we frequently edited each other’s pieces, some of which were nonfiction and VERY personal, and the biggest rule was “do NOT talk about them outside of the class.” So to see Thomas just blurt it out like that is like twisting a knife I didn’t know I’d been stabbed with. Eeeesh.

(Note: Judgement on the character, not the creator. Love the comic!)

… Thinking about it for a moment, though… well, maybe Thomas has something else working in his head. He’s devious like that. Here’s holding out hope for devious plotting!

It’s also posible that he genuinely thinks Nina might welcome the experience. Also, he’s emotionally compromised at the moment which Jess is likely capable of sensing, even if he hadn’t just paid her to bring people to a book signing…

I had considered the latter, though I suppose it’s hard to imagine Thomas being out-devioused. The former, however, I hadn’t considered! Thanks for the response! ^_^

Honestly I may be way out on left field here…. but I think Ed’s sister is a little obsessive over him. Either from never really being alike or having that classic twin experiance, or the reverse of said experiance. Most twins stop acting alike and move on to their own lives, but in her case she wants to be in his life in more ways then one. Half of me think that just maybe in that way she has feelings for her brother, I.e. she has fell for him and that’s why she sometimes acts the way she does.
